Minnesota National Guard members have arrived at a federal building and were directed to distribute donuts, coffee, and hot chocolate to anti-ICE protesters. Guard members were issued reflective vests so they would not be mistaken for federal agents.
Walz: "We have got children in Minnesota hiding in their houses, afraid to go outside. Many of us grew up reading that story of Anne Frank. Somebody is gonna write that children's story about Minnesota."
Walz: "We're no longer having a political debate. We're having a moral debate."
Walz: "To Americans who are watching this, I've got a question for you: What side do you want to be on? The side of an all powerful federal govt that can kill, injury, menace, & kidnap its citizens off the streets? Or on the side of a nurse at the VA hospital who died bearing witness to such govt?"
The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.
The term “law enforcement” should not be used by media, except perhaps in quotations. It has sadly become an Orwellian term that is used to magically sanctify violence. Language matters. Be specific. Describe individuals with names and ranks. Say exactly what they did. Don’t repeat fascist hocum.

What part of "conflict of interest" does Kristi Noem not understand?
Walz: "I'm rejecting the rust to judgment within 15 minutes of this, which they did last time. That's why you need to have a fair investigation ... they already slandered this individual ... they're telling you not to trust your eyes and ears ... there will be justice ... we can't live like this."
“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”
OMG. "DHS said the episode began after a man approached Border Patrol agents with a handgun and they tried to disarm him. But footage from the scene shows the man was holding a phone in his hand, not a gun, when federal agents took him to the ground and shot him." www.nytimes.com/live/2026/01...

Walz: Minnesota's justice system will have the last word on this.

As I told the white house in no uncertain terms this morning, the federal government cannot be trusted to lead this investigation. The state will handle it. Period.
Walz: "It's a campaign of organized brutality against the people of our state, and today that campaigned claimed another life. I've seen the video from several angles and it's sickening. But I have a strong statement here for our federal govt: Minnesota's justice system will have the last word."
Today, we lost another Minneapolis neighbor after multiple ICE agents pummeled him and shot him to death.

How many more people need to die or get shot before this ends?

President Trump, I am calling on you to put the American people and this American city first and get ICE out.
I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning. Minnesota has had it. This is sickening.

The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.
in case you're curious about how angry Minnesota is about ICE, it was -20 today
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.
The lesson of history is that tyrants cannot be appeased.

Appeasement only feeds their insatiable hunger for power.

Tyrants prey on people who feel unsafe and vulnerable.

But without mass submission, a tyrant is powerless.

Remember this.
If you're a soldier in the 11th Airborne Division being ordered to prep for deployment to Minnesota or Greenland, remember that you have the right to apply for conscientious objector status.

I just read this. I hope it provokes a good deal of discussion about this important topic!
I know folks will have different views on questions about theory, the rules governing and purpose of social science research, and how to combat the credibility crisis we're facing. But I'd like to have the conversation. I hope this piece is generative!

In Tunisia's revolution, Gen. Rachid Ammar refused Ben Ali's orders to fire on protesters. Right?

Turns out, this was just a rumor. But because it was widely believed, the rumor itself had real-world consequences that fueled the success of the uprising.

A rumor about the army’s refusal to repress protesters emboldened the resistance and sowed confusion within the regime
