As feared, the UK government remained blind and deaf to warnings from health advocates and scientific community to not give into US and Pharma demands for higher drug prices. @martinmckee.bsky.social and I explain how bad this surrender is for public health @bmj.com

Who are the winners and losers of the UK-US pharma deal—it depends which side you believe
Behind the UK’s “landmark” pharma deal with the US lies a costly surrender, with higher drug prices, weaker safeguards, and vague promises of investment, write Els Torreele and Martin McKee When the...

Trump has just declared himself the "acting president of Venezuela" over on Truth Social in case you're wondering about his mental health.
It’s been one month since 100% of the Epstein files were due by Act of Congress. Thus far they’ve only released .6% of them and are using murder and war to distract you from this fact.
Europe has tools at its disposal - including an eyewatering USD 2.4 trillion of European money invested in US stock markets via open-ended equity funds - that it could deploy as leverage in a Europe first strategy against US threats.
If I was advising the EU—and I 100% should be—my advice is that you prepare three sets of sanction packages:
1. Deliberate targeting of personal/corporate assets of Trump, Musk, Andressen, Sacks, etc like they’re Russian oligarchs by doing stuff like seizing Gigafactory Berlin. This gets used first.

It's time to fight back and remove "US big tech" from power.

Canada, UK, EU, should all be investing massively in domestic tech solutions as a strategic priority.

Failure to do so, urgently, will be catastrophic. That's my assessment, based on very clear evidence, and I'm sticking to it.
I am impeaching Secretary Kristi Noem, who is an incompetent leader and a disgrace to our democracy.

She wreaked havoc in the Chicagoland area and has brought her reign of terror to Minneapolis. One of her rogue ICE agents shot and killed an innocent woman today. It must come to an end.

Now, on top of that, Israel is taking steps to stop MSF and other NGOs from working in Gaza entirely, and international supplies and staff have been denied entry.

This prevents organizations from providing services and is in breach of Israel's obligations under International Humanitarian Law.

This is winter in #Gaza.

People are facing a third winter of cold temperatures, torrential rain and heavy winds after being repeatedly forcibly displaced.

Conditions have destroyed and flooded the makeshift shelters people are living in.

The cost of medication was too high for thousands of #CF patients around the world.

We worked with Vertex Save Us & Third World Network to approach a Bangladeshi company to make a generic version - it’s now on the way.

This will change lives.

With the world's eyes on US oil interests, let's not forget who benefits: The richest of the rich. Our research shows: 50% of the record fossil fuel profits in 2022 went to the wealthiest 1% of US Americans, the bottom 50% only received 1%.

When UK announced a deal with US on Pharma, @elstorreele.bsky.social & I were sceptical @bmj.com (not least because there is no text). Now we have the US interpretation and it’s not good 👇

Our health care system is collapsing. Housing is unaffordable. 60% of people are living paycheck to paycheck.

Instead of trying to "run" Venezuela, Trump might try to do a better job running the United States.

We should categorically reject and contest the assertion or implication that being an "activist" in some way diminishes/qualifies a person's perspective or positions; it's part of an insidious and reactionary project to make "passive apolitical consumer" the only correct mode of citizenship
