What's the value of academic articles and doing research? The product or the process?

This article has been a long process, and how I've processed the ongoing AI disruption of research. I use it very little, and while it's clearly not all bad, I argue for caution.

Trent does an excellent job here, but I was distracted by this henchman from a Paul Verhoeven movie
FOX: Where’s the protest against the regime that's killing people in the street right now?

Trent: They are doing those today. It’s called the ICE protests

FOX: Are they talking about Iran at the ICE protests?

Trent: No, I think they are talking about the regime that is shooting people in the face

After the 2020 election, Larry Ellison joined a call to strategize on overturning the vote for Trump and donated to election deniers. Now he controls CBS and wants CNN’s parent, raising new questions this week as his influence grows.

Ellison and the Lie
As Larry Ellison’s media empire expands, unanswered questions about his views on the 2020 election now carry real stakes as Jan. 6 is reframed and the next presidential race approaches.

EXCLUSIVE: Leaked WhatsApp messages show Labour MPs urging govt to leave X, arguing that it should "show direction to others in the UK"

The MPs said X owner Elon Musk is "fascist" and that the platform's AI tool, Grok, had put "children in harm's way"
"We are very well aware of the fact that X for Grok is now offering a spicy mode showing explicit sexual content.

This is not spicy. This is illegal. This is appalling. This is disgusting.

I can confirm we are very seriously looking into this matter."

Morgenbladet i dag. Om hvordan verktøyene vi skriver med, former tenkningen vår. Og dermed oss.

What is the role of AI in relation to environments? “Saviour” or “destroyer”? Both, but also more, as I here focus on how AI systems can *mediate* and *infiltrate*. This article is part of my “Tools for writing for thinking” project, and was originally handwritten! academic.oup.com/edited-volum...

After bombing Venezuela and kidnapping President Nicolás Maduro and his wife in the middle of the night, President Trump has declared that he will “run the country” in the meantime.

trib.al/SgMnGAt
It's an old and obvious pattern. An unpopular president - failing on the economy and losing his grip on power at home - decides to launch a war for regime change abroad.

The American people don’t want to “run” a foreign country while our leaders fail to improve life in this one.
Just woke up even angrier. Impeach, convict, remove. Draft articles now. Either we have a representative government or we don’t. Do not shut up about this until there’s a vote.
Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.
feels like a great pretext for countries to justify banning twitter/x

if only the political and media classes didn’t continue believing there was some continued value to posting there

Oh wow this is a new low, arguably more insidious and damaging to the integrity of human knowledge than creating fake sources (which at least can be exposed). Reading & judging the quality of the cited support for your claims is the difference between trustworthy research and cherry-picked bullshit
It is not "attribution and sourcing" to generate post-hoc citations that have not been read and did not inform the student's writing. Those should be regarded as fraudulent: artifacts testifying to human actions and thought that did not occur.
