He went small in a role that could’ve been clownish at volume. Really well done
kevinmkruse.bsky.social
He should get the Oscar not Penn

I’ve tried not to read too much about it (except top line OMG from critics posting) but I’ll guess …

Oversexualized black rebels?

Like *both* Teanna Taylor and Wood Harris seduce their white colleagues and send them into battle

Also: if you work for ICE, even if you’re not one of the ones arresting citizens or tackling 15-year-olds or zip-tying kids together and segregating them by race, you’re part of the mechanism making it happen, and you should suffer long-term social and post-regime-change consequences.

Some weirdo on Twitter has been absolutely melting down for like 36 straight hours because I posted:

When this is over, do not forget what ICE did, and what ICE is. And do not make room for them in society. Make sure they know that they are, and will continue to be, reviled and beneath contempt.

Yeah, though usually they sag in the middle. This one could’ve been trimmed at the start

Every critic I read said it was their favorite movie of the decade, five stars, no notes …
kevinmkruse.bsky.social
Honestly? The car chases had that George Miller feel — low camera near the asphalt, lots of cresting a hill like a roller coaster …
kevinmkruse.bsky.social
Someone on here described it as having a “car hunt” instead of a car chase and yeah, that nails it

Saw ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER tonight. Very solid, though I think all the hype oversold it a bit.

Dems floated a narrow bill to fund the military, which can’t move because the House isn’t in session. Meanwhile, DoD is now going to spend funds not appropriated by Congress to ensure military paychecks continue.

POTUS now both commands and provisions the military. Unconstitutional and SO dangerous
The Office of Management and Budget sent a notification to Congress about their intent to use research and development funds to pay members of the military, two sources with direct knowledge tell NBC News.
A spokesperson for the OMB confirmed to NBC
News that it plans to use the research and development funds and that there are two years' worth of funds available within the Department of Defense.

Yeah I’ve found suggesting Democrats are not perfect and can be criticized brings out a couple dozen to block.

I hear Sen Mike Lee is butthurt about this depiction of his slavish devotion to a dictator because he so wants a seat on SCOTUS that he’s willing to sell us all out to a wannabe dictator and he hates people pointing that out

Geez. Should be illegal

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

what really burns is that you know this discussion happens every day in the editing rooms and yet, so far, no NYT reporters are speaking up and explaining how their editors are silencing them - which leads me to conclude the reporters are ok with it - which - yeh - um -

Collect a claim from one side, collect a claim from the other, present them both to the reader with an awkward shrug and a "who can say?"

And the photo choice -- Noem's looking down ... on what? The reverse angle showed a small crowd and a quiet street. But can't show that, it's biased to one side!

A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.

you have never met a parent who will go to the mat for their kid faster than parents who have already had to fight the system to get their kid the support they're entitled to
kevinmkruse.bsky.social
I know Trump and his minions all have sneering contempt for kids with special needs, but trust me when I say that their parents will absolutely fucking destroy anyone who messes with the special education supports to which they are entitled by law.
sarapartridge.bsky.social
There are reports that the *entire* office of special education at the US Dept of Education has been cut. These hardworking folks ensure kids with disabilities get equal access to a quality education.

America’s children deserve better than this.

Per CDC source: At internal leadership meeting this afternoon, it was shared that 1,257 people were RIF'd at CDC. Number may not be final. Apparently, chief of staff was unaware that RIFs were going to occur so not clear who is making decisions. (Short 🧵)

I’d invite German newspaper readers to reflect on the number of articles you’re seeing atm about a researcher on anti-fascism having to flee the US (I found 2) compared to the time a student thought the bánh mì was inauthentic.

Should the New York Times be sold to Pennysaver and its editors sent to work in Amazon warehouses? It depends on who you ask.
