It's here! It's here! It's here! THE CANCEL CULTURE PANIC is now out with Stanford University Press! You can buy it wherever you buy books. Or I guess you can talk about it in front of Alexa and she'll order it alongside a bunch of Pamplemousse LaCroix. www.amazon.com/Cancel-Cultu...
OU has put the professor here on administrative leave:

This plug-and-play discourse seems not just intended to keep a certain emotional response (or perhaps better moral panic) going well past its sell-by date. It also seems intended to reactivate its basic underlying world view without having to go through the trouble of actually articulating it. (4/4)

Anyone reading this essay in Germany in November 2025 will likely flash back to November 2023 when the idea that "the left's" reaction to another crime showed that they had lost all legitimacy. Those articles too were based on flimsy anecdotes and fixation on specific platforms (Instagram). (3/4)

In the article, the idea is that "the left's" reaction to a crime (the murder of Charlie Kirk) shows that the left has lost all moral legitimacy. It's based on flimsy anecdotes and weird fixations on specific platforms (Bluesky) and never explains why those anecdotes prove the broader point. (2/4)

It's fascinating to me: media discourses in Germany (elsewhere too, but I see it most clearly in Germany) have a tendency to retain a structure, but to slowly substitute the specific elements connected by that structure. It's like a discursive Ship of Theseus... (1/4)

The president is a political cartoon of corruption come to life, a gaudy grifter who is selling off pardons and lining his pockets, building a golden ballroom and protecting his fellow sex predator elites, all the while regular Americans are suffering and struggling to make ends meet.

She’s moving back and forth between a description of wokeness and a description of institutional cowardice and her thesis appears to be that those two are the same — it’s like the critiques of „woke“ that are 99% focused on HR departments. Just even dumber…

Not to mention an absolutely bananas cast: Sean Connery! The guy who played Drax in Moonraker! The guy who gets bitten by Jaws in The Spy Who Loved Me! Ron Perlman! Helmut Qualtinger! And ofc SLATER

As you intuited, it’s pretty different from the book — but iirc loads of atmosphere, an impressive monastery set and a memorable score by James Horner!

Really wanted to put down Zardoz, but wasn’t sure whether they’d accept it as “action”
Wait, is this the Professor Watchlist, but for media … and instead of being posted on an independent group’s website it’s on the official website of the people who control armed men with badges and a distinct disregard for the Constitution?

(In this game you’re trying for the more obscure entries)

Not to brag but a little proud of this one
