This is very much a post-9/11 book and a response to Huntington’s Clashnof Civilizations. Barber is much better but much less influential. 🤷‍♂️

I was picking up on the struggle being between and within states.

That’s a very Barberian take of you. 😉

Making it a little bit more challenging….

The fact that so many prominent self-professed pro-democracy organizations and people are still active on X today is truly a sign of these dramatic times.

Are there any interesting conferences or workshops on football/soccer and politics in (Southern) Europe in mid/late April 2026? Please let me know! 🙏

never really understand why people bring other people into conversations.

I would be very careful in reading too much into this.

The EU is not the solution to democratic malaise at the national level. In fact, the EU needs functioning and trusted member states to become a more powerful and relevant regional and global actor.

And all petered out after a few months of muddling through...

It’s quite disturbing that the debate is almost completely about the legality of the second strike, whereas it seems quite clear that the first strike was illegal too.

Never mind. Found it and subscribed!

Is it also available online?

And this chart:

Most philanthropy towards U.S. universities is about ego of the giver, not need of the receiver.

MacKenzie Scott is a rare exception. Most of her gifts are truly transformative, as they go to less privileged organizations and are unconditional. ❤️

I honestly don’t understand why any real soccer fan would want to go to this World Cup.

But if you do, check out this thread so you are prepared for the costs.

Important @voxeurop.bsky.social article on a phenomenon that still gets too little attention in Europe.
Beyond the incel: Europe in the face of masculinist terrorism
Violent attacks against women by radicalised men are multiplying on European soil. With the phenomenon only partially understood, an adequate response remains to be found.

One more Messi-obsessed season and I'll probably be done with the MLS. Already watched far less this season and will cancel my MLS subscription.

Underwhelming second half, but winning fairly effortlessly in Heerenveen is no easy feat. #PSVHEE

Even worse is that that same streaming company made a massive offer on La Liga a week later.

How did I miss the creation of the Commission for Public Higher Education, the newest right-wing oversight commission in higher education. Very disturbing.

Read this thread. This is exactly why the OU story is so scary. What Adrian so aptly calls “wingnut welfare” is very attractive for mediocre right-wing students looking for a break.
