I love forests and teaching! I’m an Associate Professor of Teaching in the Dept of Forest & Conservation Sciences at the University of British Columbia. I enjoy making nerdy videos to teach my (and your!) students about forest ecology and management. youtube.com/@patrickculb...

Just keep an eye out for the Cylons 😂.

Yes, saw it at the British Museum (because imperialism).

I’m filled with sadness and rage. Do no harm.

I went to high school a mile away from the district featured in this article. It’s hard to imagine the dystopian reality of the superintendent patrolling during pickup time to protect students and parents from federal agents. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/31/u...

“Her children — she asked that they remain nameless, for their own safety — came home from school on Wednesday and removed their passports from their necks. The lanyard was heavier than expected, both said; the 15-year-old made it clear that she was speaking both literally and figuratively.”

Thoughtful article on Minnesota's civic culture. MN had the highest voter turnout of any state in 2020 election, and ranked 2nd by percent of residents who volunteer. Minnesotans are politically engaged and care about their communities. www.startribune.com/minnesota-mi...

It’s not pleasant for people to go toe-to-toe with the federal government. But in this case, it’s very Minnesotan.

I'm a few years older, so I wonder if Mallrats was a good movie, or if I was just 15.

No coffee can compete with the adrenaline rush of almost getting hit by a car that runs a red light. 🚲 👎 😡

"They were obviously not trained at all. I've known many police officers in my life. These people were right off the streets."

"They had the professional demeanor of criminals."

The Washington Post published a clear video of federal agents removing Alex Pretti's handgun moments before he was fatally shot. There's nothing in the video to suggest Pretti even reached for his weapon.

My friend Sara posted this about the superb care her father received from with Alex Pretti

Absolutely heartbreaking

(For those lacking context, UBC was visited today by a tiny, fringe political party whose platform consists primarily of anti-Indigenous racism.)

When so much in the world is 💩, it’s nice to see a good turnout against racist idiocy.
Nasra Ahmed, a 23-year-old US citizen, was arrested and detained by ICE. She was held for TWO DAYS.

ICE agents handcuffed her, called her a racial slur, and she was knocked to the ground so hard she got a concussion.

This cannot continue happening. ICE needs to leave.

As a Canadian-American with family in Minneapolis, I’m glad that there’s absolutely nothing going on in the news to fuel my ADHD and prevent me from getting any work done. 😂 😭.

The situation in Minneapolis is simultaneously showing us the best and the worst of the United States.
