There is a deep fragility here, this characterizing arguments that one does not find convincing or agreeable as efforts at suppression. Or, in an old school foucauldian sense, they betray what they desire when they supposedly argue against it.

I would be very surprised if people didn’t know a whole lot more about those histories and the figures associated with them than 15 years ago. What we are in the midst of is a reckoning and learning, and that is miles away concealing it.

They might be efforts that some people, including those names here, disagree with. But locating the challenges to the public narratives of Canadian history as activist suppression does a massive disservice to careful research and discussion.
