In a time where Republicans have made attacking trans people central to their political platform and many Democrats have agreed to throw them under the bus for political expediency, it is inspiring to see a politician not only proudly fighting to protect trans people but also honoring trans leaders.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

I suppose we could mandate our political system to intensive psychoanalytic therapy to resolve this dilemma. The problem is that white supremacist capitalist patriarchy is by design a violent psyche that can't be fixed with any kind of therapy. We need a whole new psyche (5 of 5)

The Dems, as the superego tell the GOP ego that it is very bad for succumbing to the desires of the id and instead seeks to find socially appropriate ways to manage the id's desires (4 of 5)

nelsonlflores.bsky.social
This both arouses and disgusts the GOP who as the ego follow the reality principle and tries to fulfill Trump's desire for instant gratification while criticizing him for his excesses (3 of 5)

Trump as the id follows the pleasure principle and seeks immediate gratification bestowed on straight white men by the white supremacist capitalist patriarchy (2 of 5)

This is the genius of the Portland protests - they make the claims of lawlessness look not just wrong, but comical

If this ceasefire happens - and I hope it does - Western media will talk about 'peace'. This will be inaccurate. What they will mean is 'quiet', a reversion to the background level of violence that Palestinians have faced for decades. Peace can only come with the end of the occupation and apartheid.

Don’t Look Up was a satirical movie where an Elon-like character convinced everybody that an asteroid coming to earth was actually a huge economic opportunity. Who could have predicted a few years later it would no longer be satire. Also *mild spoiler* the movie did not end well for anybody but Elon

The NYT has also been citing Trump and anonymous sources “familiar with the negotiations” for over a month now saying a deal was imminent and that Harvard was agreeing to pay $500 million dollars which makes me wonder if they are now just a mouthpiece for Trump’s “art of the deal” pressure campaign

Nothing shows the dangerous tendency to normalize authoritarianism like the New York Times coverage of the extortion of Harvard. One could read this article and think it is about a free agent inking a contract with the Yankees. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/09/u...

"American civil society has more than enough financial and organizational muscle to stop this authoritarian offensive. But it requires collective resolve. And it requires leadership, which has been in painfully short supply."

People looking back at this time of history in the future will no doubt applaud the bravery of GOP senators who consistently expressed mild anxiety about Trump’s fascist takeover of our government
A headline that reads”GOP senators increasingly anxious about Trump’s aggressive use of National Guard”

“So yes—when Bad Bunny takes that stage, we’ll celebrate him. We’ll defend Title III. We’ll keep teaching, organizing, and speaking out. But more than that, we’ll keep listening for the world we’re fighting for—the one that sounds like music, laughter, and a thousand accents refusing to disappear.”

So according to SCOTUS it would seem that states have the right to ban gender affirmative care that professional organizations support but do not have the right to ban conversion therapy that professional organizations condemn. Professional expertise literally has no legitimacy anymore.

What this case shows is that for many immigrants a pathway to legalization is essentially impossible providing incentives to lie as a survival strategy. These lies can then take on a life of their own. A more sensible immigration policy could have prevented this.

A foundational assumption of the capitalist logic shaping US social policy is that something needs to be a problem to justify people getting support. This means human services professionals have to pathologize their clients. Just imagine if we lived in a world where people just got what they needed.

This is a great jumping-off point for something that I think a lot of people don't understand when we talk about adding certain things to the DSM or ICD.
A post from Ashley Annestedt, LCSW reading "Therapists, help me out. What's the ICD code for: Nothing is clinically 'wrong,' patient is experiencing basic human emotions due to racism, sexism, homophobia, removal of rights, and a pandemic?"
