Fair point on the focus but I don’t think that will change much — it will just be based on worse measures. A question asked the same way at regular intervals for close to 90 years is a great resource.

This is a travesty and for presidency scholars something of a tragedy…

Court battle over surveillance footage at the Broadview ICE detention center reaches new levels of kafkaesque absurdity: The DOJ claimed it *couldn't afford* hard drives to put video footage on. Plaintiffs bought THE US GOVERNMENT hard drives. ICE "lost" them.

Government Loses Hard Drives It Was Supposed to Put ICE Detention Center Footage On
A Kafkaesque saga in which the government has failed to produce critical video footage has reached new levels of absurdity.

These people are just crazy. Trump gets up and says "MASS DEPORTATIONS MASS DEPORTATIONS MASS DEPORTATIONS" and they're like "he probably means a path to legal status for deserving immigrants"
Right now Rikers Island, the physically largest jail in the entire United States, is holding under 7,000 people.

ICE's warehouse plans include detention camps which will hold between 8,500-10,000 people in buildings not designed for human habitation.

lol
Here’s the situation in the Twin Cities:

Random Bovino-style tear-gassing: Way down

Relentless persecution of immigrants: Unchanged

Thuggish violence against observers: Way up

In one sense not a shock of course, but add it to the broken norms list — presidents simply didn’t formerly use proclamations solely for extravagant praise of themselves.
Somehow I missed that on the anniversary of his inauguration, Pres. Trump literally proclaimed that "January 20, 2025, will forever be remembered as the day our Nation was restored to its full greatness and glory." I hope you all celebrated as directed.

Q: A number of Republicans are calling on you to apologize for that post. Is that something you're going to do?

Trump: No, I didn't make a mistake. It was fine. I guess it was a takeoff from The Lion King. And certainly it was a very strong post

Credit where it’s due:

This is one hell of a hard nosed bullshit free article by the NYT. It feels like an editor slipped in the word anomalies, but other than that it’s tough & honest, & how news outlets should write about Trump & his racist administration.
