It's Day 50 of the ICE occupation of MSP.

Today at a presser, the head of the Border Patrol said "The groups are a bit better organized. They’ve got some excellent communications…and it makes it difficult to operate here at times.”

Keep making it difficult for them. Blow those whistles!

Life in Minnesota is terrifying right now, but every day I feel amazed by watching us wake up and go fuck with these absolute losers. Minnesota is going to annoy the regime to death and upon the graves of the fascists we'll erect a statue to Barb the librarian who ran dispatch.
Small thread.
I was driving up to @makwacoffee.bsky.social bc I knew Roseville (a suburb next to St Paul) was lousy w/ ICE. 1/2 mile away I drive past an ICE agent, so I flip around (following every traffic law) & enter a lot where there were 5-6 ICE vehicles & probably 8 observer cars.

Sending love to other disabled folks who can't be outside for health reasons. It's so hard, but the stuff that you/we are doing behind the scenes to connect resources and support those who are out there matters. I see you 🫂

Reminder: don't fuck with librarians. Trust me.
But the point is for about 2 hours these 5-6 cars did nothing except drive around Roseville, constantly observed by the Roseville Liberation Front made up of retirees and librarians.
They can't do shit. They are outnumbered. Their operation is shit & ground to a halt.
never got my fucking coffee tho

The problem in MN is it's freaking cold and also if we hear horns honking or whistles or other noisemakers blowing we rush out of our homes ready to protect our neighbors rather than celebrate. (We need some other signal . . . )
Nice thing about California is it’s warm enough you can just leave a window cracked and if it happens the cheering spreading across the rooftops will wake you up

Some days you know you can fight & win. Some days you don't know you can win but you can fight anyway. And some days are the fight has gone out of you.

But it's okay to take a day off to cry instead. It's okay to take a break to build back your resilience. Its okay.

It's okay to come back tomorrow

A whistle is becoming the sign of the resistance. Mine was noticed by the school social worker during my daughter‘s 504 meeting. Afterwards she said "I noticed your whistle, can we talk for a moment?" Now I know the school needs more support- she knew she could ask safely.

I think people underestimate how big this is. Like a city-wide strike is not something that has happened in the US for nearly 100 years
there are a bunch of big names on this list, including multiple beard award winners, and some places i never would have guessed in a hundred years (the malt shop?!) and i'm genuinely floored and delighted to see so many participants

the guy who said “You don't win elections to bank political capital — you win elections to burn political capital and improve lives."
should take advantage of the fact that he’s not running for reelection and improve some lives.
I do not understand why Tim Walz is not doing his job. It would be so easy to pass an eviction moratorium.

Exactly one statewide elected official in Minnesota who is meeting the moment.
Dr. King believed showing up for your community was a moral obligation. Seeing people do exactly that today, on his national holiday in the freezing cold, is a powerful reminder of what his legacy actually calls us to.

It’s actually really liberating from the grip of paranoia to assume you’re being read or listened to and act accordingly. If you assume what you say is public, if you don’t want someone to see it or hear it, don’t say it or do it. But if you do say it, say it with your whole chest

Be gentle with people & ruthless with systems.

Or, locally:
Let's be gentle with each other so we can be dangerous together.
Many people in my circles seems a little extra crispy, scatterbrained, and/or prickly today. I don't think that's coincidental. Folks are tired; constant crisis wreaks havoc on our body and mind.

Drink water, rest, extend kindness. Sustaining ourselves is hard to prioritize, but deeply important.

Someone in our group is concerned about opsec in the Signal chat, and I get it, but they're kidnapping my neighbors, and we're onboarding 20 grandparents a day, and I need an easy way for them to tell me how many ice agents are in the Hans Bakery parking lot this morning

"I helped the masked gunmen illegally abducting your neighbors" is going to be a tough campaign message to run on.
hennepin county sheriff’s office ramped up their work helping ICE even as dawanna witt announces her campaign kickoff. reports from whipple say they are acting as crowd control

they’ve created a barrier and ICE are barely guarding the gates now because HCSO are doing it for them. this frees up ICE
remember that the sheriff is an elected position, and dawanna witt is up for reelection in november. let’s see if the way hennepin county sheriffs have been assisting ICE spurs a challenger

There are anti-ICE signs on every business, every streetlight, every blank wall, in half the windows. Everyone is wearing anti-ICE clothing. No one talks about anything else, at the bus stop, at work, at the bars and restaurants, at the store.

Total unity around one idea: ICE OUT NOW
