Not a single reporter asked Homan how many DHS troops would remain in the Twin Cities after the surge “ends.” Journalism is so dead

This morning Tom Homan announced operation metro surge would end soon. I’ll believe it when I see it. We still need people out and staying vigilant until every last agent is gone and everyone wrongly taken to Texas or anyone else is back home.

He literally says in this clip that ICE will keep in Minnesota “quick reaction forces” — a military term — to go after “agitators.” Remember that those on the ground in MPLS have spent more than a week trying to tell everyone that Trump’s prior “deescalation” was a ruse and ICE is still operational
Homan: "Operation Metro Surge is ending. In the next week, we're going to deploy the officers here on detail back to their home stations or to other areas of the country where they're needed."

The long road to recovery starts now.

The impact on our economy, our schools, and people’s lives won’t be reversed overnight. That work starts today.

I’ll have more at 9:45.

With the announcement that the ICE surge in MN is ending, I’m thinking about how so many people thought the child in Bad Bunny’s halftime performance was Liam Ramos and how our need for Hollywood endings and satisfying payoffs might hinder us from dealing with the painful and traumatic aftermath.

i would still love to know what happened in the meeting between mayor jacob frey and tom homan at minneapolis city hall on monday

tom homan forgot to thank hennepin county sheriff dawanna witt!
Homan thanks Mayor Frey for cracking down on the trash barricades. Thanks Walz for sending state troopers to protect federal agents.

There is a reason SPPD and every even reasonably sensible law enforcement agency prohibits chases/pursuits in urban areas. They are shown to be far too risky and almost always cause more damage than they're worth.

One of the *MANY* guidelines and norms the feds are breaking on a daily basis.
This is the aftermath of an ICE kidnapping a few blocks from my home in St. Paul—an hour ago. A quiet street full of broken glass and at least three wrecked cars. The target of the kidnapping was taken away by ambulance. He was on a stretcher and covered by a sheet, though a cop said he was alive.

This is a really important point, and part of what MN has been demanding - we don't just want ICE OUT, we want ICE STOPPED - we shouldn't have been terrorized like this, and nobody else should either.
Chicago, Portland, and LA demanded the same, but ICE just moved on - and came to MN.

NO MORE.
even if ICE move on, levy armstrong says, where is the accountability? it is not enough for them to get out, to move to another community. they must face accountability for the harm they put on the state of minnesota

an echo of what has happened already with CPD and LAPD: outright refusal to serve their communities and visibly assisting the feds. The failure of local politicians and the police to act need a major reckoning when this is over. It already was necessary for institutional biases but even more so now.

I love this project and I love that one of my elected officials has been leading it. Seeing the organizing and on-the-ground safety work of @jasoncomix.bsky.social as well as several Minneapolis city council members has really stretched my imagination about what elected public service can look like.
It’s been another busy week dealing with the ICE occupation in Minneapolis, but I wanted to give you a Burrito update!

We started this project just over 5 weeks ago, and since then we’ve provided over 1150 meals for people, and spent almost $12k at local, immigrant-owned restaurants!

Today was a special one for me- one of my former coworkers lived her dream of starting a food truck last year. Unfortunately, with ICE making her neighborhood unsafe, she wasn’t able to operate the truck much the past 6 weeks.

But today, we bought 300 tamales from her and got her family $1000.

no one wants to challenge dawanna witt for hennepin county sheriff either
Can't believe not one DFL politician is going to just go for it and challenge Klobuchar for governor. We're going to sleepwalk in the middle of this crisis because nobody wants to take on the big dog.
Minnesota is currently under an economic blockade. So @amyklobuchar.com what are you gonna do? How many businesses are we going to lose without a bailout?

Why shouldn’t sheriff’s give ICE more information than they are legally required to?
Our local jails are pre-trial facilities. That means that the people being held there have not yet been convicted of a crime.

When ICE takes people away before they have been convicted of a crime, they are preventing victims and witnesses from their opportunity to seek justice.
