The MN Dept of Children, Youth, and Families has been told that SNAP benefits (aka food stamps) will not be paid in November if the shutdown continues. Donate to your local food shelves if you can.

Federal shutdown information
Last updated: October 15, 2025

The Department of Children, Youth, and Families has received notice from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Services that if the federal government shutdown continues into November, there will not be enough funds to pay November Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

We will continue to add information on this site as federal guidance changes or program operations are affected.

According to Sahan Journal’s mayoral quiz, none of the opposing candidates support that specific property tax increase. Of course it’s pretty easy to oppose as a challenger, but many of the candidates (Fateh + Davis for sure) have strong alternate revenue (non-property tax hike) plans.
Screenshot of Sahan Journal’s Minneapolis mayoral quiz, with a question “Do you support the 7.8% property tax increase proposal in Mayor Jacob Frey’s proposed 2026 budget?” and all mayoral candidates (besides Frey) saying “No”

This is a great sign for Soren!

Oh no! Tbf, obvious face wounds are grounds for much cooler/more ridiculous stories. “I went camping and had to fight off a bear”, “I saved a kitten from a burning building but had to jump out a window”, “I stepped on a rake like in a cartoon”, etc etc etc

Hope you heal quickly!

Dated someone from Mountain Home once, whose family turned out to be super conservative, deep-red religious fundamentalists, and whose dad was an uptight Air Force war hawk, and let me just say… this is gonna be interesting

Hegseth: "I'm also proud that today we're signing a letter of acceptance to build a Qatari Emeri air force facility at the Mountain Home Airbase in Idaho."

This was a real empirical study in “how much can we crank the reading speed before it becomes unintelligible” and I can tell you, for me, it’s around 1.75x

2x is listenable, but it takes more work to actively listen than the efficiency gain is worth

It’s clear you understand those nuances and will be voting with your conscience no matter what you end up choosing, so that’s all I (or anyone) could ask for. Was simply trying to provide some clarity if possible. Cheers ✌️

Fair enough, not trying to mansplain or anything, sorry it got a little zealous for a sec there. I’m just trying to push for the rank 3 slate as much as I can with people who don’t want to see Frey win another term. Cuz there’s a lot of those people, and far fewer who understand the nuances of RCV.

priorities when you rank your ballot this year. Is getting rid of Jacob Frey your top priority? The best way to do that is a full slate, even if Omar is #3 among them. If you're more inclined to vote w/ caution given your issues w/ Fateh, I totally understand that too. Just worth weighing the facts.
thejohnnyhill.com
I'd just say this: Frey has the money, power, and friends to get away with MUCH worse than the things Omar's even been accused of. This summer's fuckery with the influence and corruption of the MNDFL is case in point. I'm not saying any of this to get you to rank Omar #1, but just to consider ...

Not sure about this year's HQ either, but surely his team knows the rules and is acting accordingly.

Regardless, I understand the concern. But I do think it's only fair to look at what's actually been validated/upheld by ethics committees. Which is very little.
thejohnnyhill.com
What are those issues? Genuinely asking. All ethics issues (I know of) that have come up have either been cleared up or outright dismissed by e.g. Senate ethics committee. I think team Fateh is smart in not playing into non-issues that his opps try to make into news, but I understand the concerns!
thejohnnyhill.com
Why not Fateh? If you’re truly that opposed to Frey, the Jazz-DeWayne-Omar slate (in any order) is the key to ousting him. There are no other viable candidates!

(Yes, this was as horrifying to type out as it is to read, don't @ me)

who gets that top spot on your ballot. That’s where the secondary fight is.

Now, it’s too soon to say how/if they’d work together once one of them gets elected. But safe to say they’re not going to go scorched earth like Frey will if he loses.
thejohnnyhill.com
They all want to be our next mayor, and they also all know that doesn’t happen for any of them unless they work together to overcome Frey. Coalition politics feel strange in our current climate, and is something Frey could never imagine. But it’s a winning strategy — they just have to figure out…
