What I learned from Prince and Muhammad Ali was that it’s possible to love yourself so much that everybody else does, too.

Mamdani: "I am in support of abolishing ICE. What we see is an entity that has no interest in fulfilling its stated reason to exist. We're seeing a government agency that is supposed to be enforcing some kind of immigration law, but instead what it's doing is terrorizing people."

He’s our own Puxsutawney Ted, predicting ice and a possible grid collapse.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was spotted earlier today, January 20, 2026, on a plane heading to Laguna Beach as the state of Texas braces for a rare ice threat and arctic cold front.

I will never get over the fact that the Republican Party chose as its standard-bearer, and this country elected as its President, quite possibly the worst human being on the planet.
Trump: "ICE is gonna be too rough with somebody. They're gonna make a mistake sometimes. I felt horribly when I was told the young woman had the tragedy. But when I learned her father is - I hope he still is, but I don't know - was a tremendous Trump fan. It's terrible. It's so sad. It just happens"

One thing I will say, having knocked on thousands of doors in my lifetime, (most recently ~1000 for Zohran), it is very, very consistent that a single conversation massively increases the chances of a person connecting with a campaign & voting if they're a person who is not engaged with politics.
interesting that a single face-to-face contact turned this nonvoter into a voter

I think people underestimate how big this is. Like a city-wide strike is not something that has happened in the US for nearly 100 years
there are a bunch of big names on this list, including multiple beard award winners, and some places i never would have guessed in a hundred years (the malt shop?!) and i'm genuinely floored and delighted to see so many participants

I didn't even know it was possible to close the gap between White voters and Black voters to just 9 points.

SEVENTY PERCENT OF WHITE VOTERS say the country is out of control. 50% of Trump voters do!!!!

If I post “holy fucking shit” with no context, people say “here comes a great Prince story”.
There should be a rule that if you are a Known Sports Poster you can say things like “holy fucking shit” with zero context but if you are primarily a Known Politics Poster that gets you like a two day ban

New— An American citizen boarding flight from Boston to Lisbon just now told me after showing boarding pass, every passenger stopped on jetway by two ICE agents demanding to take their photo. When passenger asked why, ICE threatened to detain them. If they said no photo, couldn't board/TBD detained.

I appreciate the sentiment here, but it is only honest to say that the United States will never be the same again. The U.S. that led the world in scientific research in so many disciplines is done. It may be possible someday for some to be rebuilt, but why would any other country trust us again?
This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

Whenever I read discourse on AI energy/water use that focuses on the "median query," I can't help but feel misled. Coding agents like Claude Code send hundreds of longer-than-median queries every session, and I run dozens of sessions a day.

Not too late and the queue ought to be shorter by now. I actually got $60 by following Anil’s suggestions.
Oh hey friends, if you’re a Verizon customer and they are trying to give you the $20 desire for the outage the other day, DO NOT TAKE IT. You don’t have to even call them. Get onto the web chat, type in “agent”, tell them the outage affected your work, and say you’ve been a customer for X years.

@buttondown.com quick suggestion — in the email summary of activity, there are a few numbers that get labeled as red when they go down, even if down is "good" (and vice versa with green). For example, if unsubscribes or undeliverable subscribers goes down, that should be green.

Attentions Dems: if you want to win over the “persuadable” Trump voters? ABOLISH ICE.
*Another* new YouGov / Economist poll shows continuing mounting support for abolishing ICE:

45% support abolishing ICE
45% oppose abolishing ICE

Black voters in favor 60-20
Moderates in favor 45-41
Independents in favor 44-34

12% of Trump voters support abolishing ICE as well

I understand recoiling in fear, tuning things out, or retreating — I fully get it, on an emotional level. But I can't imagine not fighting. I simply cannot fathom seeing these forces at work in our world, let alone in close proximity to me, and not saying "fuck that" and throwing down.

The Baptist church has hundreds of cases of child sexual abuse that this scumbag has never commented on, let alone called those church-enabled attacks terror.

This feels like the perfect encapsulation of how completely cooked right-wing brains are. In the fairly-recent past, Republicans would distance themselves from anyone batshit enough to froth at the mouth towards Elmo. Now, they'll embrace it. It would be good to point out how fucking creepy that is!
