Do you ever find yourself thinking, “Man, I wish I could read about beer, but I’ll die if I go that long without gay ennui”? Well, I’m the Minneapolis-based beer writer for you.

Am I the best beer writer? No. Am I better than the beer writers for the Strib? Yes. Am I gay? Also yes. Duh. See above.

More from today's initial light rail vehicle roll down the Southwest LRT route. Construction began in 2018 and Metro Transit says passengers will ride in 2027. Over the Kenilworth Channel, leaving W Lake St Station, arriving at W 21st St Station, exiting the Kenilworth tunnel.

Broke: Being happily monogamous with the same partner since you were 18.
Woke: Inflating your body count (by including any doctor or nurse who has told you to scoot forward a little more) so that the other queers won’t think you’re a prude.

Ordering coffee in Melbourne: I'll have a flat white, thanks.
Ordering coffee in Minneapolis: Yeah, so, what's the one that tastes like a liquid brownie? Atomic Blondie? Yeah, I'll have that.

True story, this is basically the only thing that will get me to go to Apple Valley happily.

Here are my favorite real pumpkins from tonight.
A pumpkin carved to resemble Gomez and Morticia Addams. Raul Julia era. A pumpkin carved to resemble a poster for Spirited Away. A pumpkin carved to resemble the painting “American Gothic” but with the couple wearing witch hats and dressed as scarecrows. A pumpkin carved to resemble the poster for The Lost Boys. Kiefer Sutherland as a vampire is on the right.

Favorite. Night. Of. The. Year.
The start of the pumpkins at the Pumpkin Spectacular at the Minnesota Zoo. Carved fake pumpkins hand from trees around a paved path lit by colored lights. Further on the path toward the pumpkins. A blurry child is in the foreground. A collection of hundreds of fake carved pumpkins arranged off the side of the path. Multiple different colors light up the silly/spooky faces. Another pumpkin display with a posed scarecrow pumpkin “behind bars.”

I did a lot of this while wearing dresses—it’s fun until you sweat through your dress and look in the mirror 😜

My access to the divine feminine was sacrificed to the great god Dewalt and all I got was this shitty fence.

Finished building it today. It just needs to be sealed.
An expanse of a board on board privacy fence with a top 2x6 cap. One of the gates on the board on board fence—the gate locks with a black mechanical keypad. The fence on the other side of the yard with a concrete path and retaining wall. Garden beds are in the distance. The “alley gate” of the fence. Scrap wood sits in the bottom right.

I’ve been told there’s a scientific reason for that—jars are apparently more difficult to open if you don’t have a lot of testosterone due to differences in subcutaneous fat or connective tissue. Or something like that. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Important update: Chipotle’s new “red chimichurri” is the best thing they have ever added to the menu.

I imagine there are a lot of dudes out there who feel this very acutely as well. It’s a blessing and a curse.

My dad, taking me to the altar where he sacrificed my divine femininity to the great god Dewalt: “Measure twice, cut once. Always cut *away* from your body. You can buy more tools or supplies, but you can’t buy more fingers—so go slow and always keep your fingers away from the business end.”

The curse of having a dad who wanted me to be well-rounded and self-sufficient is that now I’m too competent at building and fixing things and therefore it’s my responsibility to build and fix things. I’ve been forever cut off from the divine feminine inability to use power tools.

"Make cities safe and fun for kids to run around and play in" is a pretty good guiding light for urban planning

“In a city once choked with cars and infamous for its traffic snarls, Paris has pulled off a remarkable turnaround…the French capital has officially become Europe’s best city for children to walk, cycle, and move around independently.” Via @momentummag.bsky.social

Mamdani standing up for transgender people living in America is a huge part of why he is dominating the mayor's race in New York City.

Giving a shit about trans people, immigrants, and the unhoused is a winning strategy. I hope that reminds you of what Trump wants you to forget:

People are good.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Best combination of a terrible headline and a great article I've seen in a while. Click-bait put to a good use.

This is goth mom erasure, and I will not stand for it.
Wirecutter heading "The shirts our style experts think every closet needs" followed by a picture of 6 tops, only one in black, and all of them looking like something boring women would buy at the Gap.

Me providing feedback on an AI integration: Automating things too much facilitates deskilling and increases mistakes, so maybe we should focus more of providing helpful suggestions rather than “complete” responses.

Me a second later: Oh no, I’ve just reinvented Clippy. I… I resign. I’m sorry.

An adult driver angry at a child they hit with their car.

Our car culture summed up in one video.

Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.

Absolutely no one:

Sadly, no! Only what I spotted while passing—the main structural component was tubing at the leading edge of the wings, and the tubes appeared to mount toward the top of the shoulder blades. I’m imagining a harness that goes around each arm and has some sort of spring action to adjust angle.
