One small not-quite quibble here.

According to Catholic teachings, Christ is just as present in the Eucharist whether it’s being carried to detainees in a monstrance or a simple vessel.

But the monstrance is a particularly solemn and traditional way of dramatizing that presence.

For those not fluent in Catholic: refusing the Monstrance is not denying prisoners the Eucharist, it is refusing Christ himself, since Christ is present in the Monstrance.

If Portland’s blow up animals are the right language for Portland, this is the right language for Chicago.

Hey, sci-fi and fantasy folks, if you happen to know folks who are involved with various estates in the field, do tip them a hat about the Anthropic settlement. Agencies do not get $ out of the deal and may not remember to talk to estate clients. My agent was worrying about estates not being alerted

Yeah, central to CatNet is that there's a tireless sentient AI doing Trust&Safety and while it makes mistakes out of naivete it also learns, and never gets traumatized by horrifying photos, etc.

Update on this: American Airlines (the first leg of the trip) told me they were checking it to Hong Kong, I said 'great, because I'm spending the night there,' and then the suitcase didn't show up because it turns out they checked it through to Chongqing. Thanks AA!

Little Free Anti-ICE Libraries: yesterday multiple people were abducted by ICE in my Chicago neighborhood (Avondale). This morning I added 40 ICE alert whistles to three different LFLs, including one box that is about a block from one of the kidnappings. I have ordered 700 whistles.

Bright orange individually packaged whistles, stapled to English and Spanish literature designed by Pilson Arts Community House in Chicago. They are placed inside a little free library in my neighborhood: Avondale in Chicago.

Minneapolis friends, it is really disturbing to me how many signs I see iin support of Becka Thompson. She is racist, thin-skinned, allergic to nuance and deep thinking, and has proved herself to be utterly ineffective and bullheaded on the Park Board. Why would she be any different on City Council?
