What if they lived there since before tall buildings. Won't someone think of the 140 year olds?

Who needs real primary sources for a real/fake history book when you can just write your own fake/real primary sources?!

If I’m reading Kyle right, Frey admits failing to issue 100 housing vouchers *that are funded this year because he wants to kill the program next year.* (This is not Stable Schools, but for single folks.) This is unallotment Trump-style, especially since county/MPHA are in.
Friction point: In August, to remedy Stable Homes Stable Schools' $3.2 million projected shortfall, Frey proposed canceling another promising anti-homelessness initiative to provide 100
emergency housing vouchers for chronically unsheltered individuals and families. • Many City Council members believe this is needed just as urgently, and the council earmarked the funding last year to revive the pandemic-era program "that had incredibly successful outcomes at long-term housing stability," Ward 2 representative Robin Wonsley
wrote in a newsletter. Yes, but: No vouchers have been issued yet, so Frey administration officials decided it would be irresponsible to begin a new anti-homelessness initiative - promising though it may be - with
an existing program short on funds.

Lisa cared most about getting credit, she wouldn't get credit individually if root problems were solved. Good for lisa: a grand opening of a specific building. Bad for Lisa: zoning reform that let's people build stuff without having to invite her to a grand opening.

Weird. Who was on the city council for a decade after 2012?

you're welcome, mike erlandson. the house has been vacant since 2012, and new prolonged vacancy program was partially because of things like the c david george property in loring that i exposed and @dansuitor.bsky.social complaining about a house on his block

Thread for Minneapolis people!

Jacob Frey is, as my grandfather would say, a bum. A chronic liar, a bagman for the rich, and an enemy of any meaningful progress in the city. Please don’t rank him! Thank you.

I hope @dewayneforminneapolis.com doesn't mind me retelling a story he told me when we first met last winter. I kept it to myself because he wasn’t telling it publicly but he mentioned it yesterday. It’s one of the things that’s leading me to rank him first. A hope-its-ok-and-I-get-right 🧵:

Yesterday, I hosted an incredible event, "Ward 8 for a New Mayor." We talked about why we need a new mayor and then @jazzformayor.bsky.social , @omarfatehmn.com , and @dewayneforminneapolis.com laid out why they should be our next mayor. I came away excited about all of them and will rank all three!

10/ After his refusal, Davis watch Frey slow-walk or outright not institute the committee’s reforms. Frey contests this & touts the work group, but it’s significant that Levy-Armstrong, no friend of progressives, has endorsed Davis for mayor. (Davis is a good progressive!) So, that’s the backstory!

9/ That’s right — Jacob Frey wanted a “black friend” to run cover for him. Davis refused; the mayor acted like Davis owed him something for appointing him to the committee, in a cynically transactional calculation that twisted Davis’s volunteer public service into political fealty.

Gonna get the band back together.

Low frequency means fewer actual busses. So many stops means the fewer people who take the bus don't have to walk much.
gettinggophery.bsky.social
I think I would add that our bus system sacrifices frequency for # of stops, which actually discourages walking. In "real" cities, transit generates pedestrians.

Also the 2050 comp plan will hopefully be business zoning focused.

The one great tragedy of new Bryant is the lack of businesses.
gettinggophery.bsky.social
New Hennepin is going to make an interesting natural experiment. Density is already there. Linear set of businesses is there. Modesty less parking. Much better infrastructure.

I have theories: Minnesotans are uncommonly scared of other people; many are terrified of parking a car and only want to do it right in front of their destination; pandemic probably merits a mention. But seriously, guys: SO many persistent problems here would be helped if everyone walked to things.

There's $1.50 (total) parking six blocks from target center/field. And people sit in that damn ramp.
gettinggophery.bsky.social
We also regularly park a few blocks from wherever we are going in places where there's allegedly no parking. Of course there's parking.
