Happy Columbo’s Day
Screenshot from Columbo. He his talking to his dog, which is sitting is the drivers seat of a car. “Okay, I’m gonna put you in charge. You take care of the car. You’re a responsible dog. When I get back, if the car’s okay, I’ll give you another cookie.” “If the car’s gone,” “I’ll give you another cookie anyway” “because I love you.”

What I would like to see:

- bury Columbus Day
- celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day
- add a new, separate holiday: Columbo Day

The incredibly rare giant furry inchworm in his natural habitat
Charlie, a brindle corgi, stretched out flat and floppy on the back of a plushy orange sofa. He looks like a legless worm with giant ears. How does he balance up there? Nobody knows.

Well. Fuck. This unleashed it all. 😭

Gavin Creel singing Stephen Sondheim’s “What Can You Lose” from Dick Tracy.

“This is my favorite Sondheim song ever written,” Gavin says in the January 2011 video. “For me, in my heart, this is the greatest.”

I loved this soundtrack.

Occasional reminder: Dick Tracy (1990) includes music by Sondheim, sung by Madonna (and Mandy Patinkin), in a movie starring Warren Beatty and featuring Madonna, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, and Catherine O’Hara.

It’s the sort of thing that sounds like a fever dream if you don’t know about it.

Walked by a guy, hunky, in gym clothes, with his bro, hunky, also in gym clothes, who said, in the most SoCal accent possible, “It’s not a kind of sitch where you normally RSVP but I don’t want to be rude so I’m going to fucking RSVP” & I hope this is a new Jane Austen project.

Belated PSA for non-baseball fans on here:

If people start yelling "DUMPER" or "BIG DUMPER" or things having to do with dumps, it's probably a baseball thing. (Unless it isn't.) (There is a big baseball game happening on FOX. Mariners vs. Blue Jays.)
a baseball player swings his bat at a ball in front of a crowd with a banner that says coca cola
Alt: words BIG DUMPER with a baseball player (Cal Raleigh) swinging the bat hard and probably hitting a homerun

"Diane Keaton hated it when her mother, a housewife and amateur photographer, told her she had a pretty smile. And she hated it when a teacher complimented her on a pretty dress. 'I was old enough to understand that pretty was a poor cousin to beautiful,” she writes. www.vulture.com/article/the-...

Good thread.

This Minneapolis resident will be ranking (for mayor, in this order):

1. DeWayne Davis
2. Omar Fateh
3. Jazz Hampton

Let's go, we need a new mayor.
dbrauer.net
I hope @dewayneforminneapolis.com doesn't mind me retelling a story he told me when we first met last winter. I kept it to myself because he wasn’t telling it publicly but he mentioned it yesterday. It’s one of the things that’s leading me to rank him first. A hope-its-ok-and-I-get-right 🧵:

Yesterday, I hosted an incredible event, "Ward 8 for a New Mayor." We talked about why we need a new mayor and then @jazzformayor.bsky.social , @omarfatehmn.com , and @dewayneforminneapolis.com laid out why they should be our next mayor. I came away excited about all of them and will rank all three!

When Trump was elected, I decided I would try to put my column writing energy towards somewhere local. I wanted to write in my communities about stuff that was happening.

Not all plans work out, but this one seems to be so far. I am looking forward to a slightly more formal process.
