I once again apologise to anyone who followed me for professional reasons
dropped a medieval scythe on my leg during store inventory. Wasn’t sharp anymore but I did have to get a tetanus shot and a couple stitches about it
Oooh good question for historians and archaeologists... what's the oldest thing you've accidentally been injured by?

I've cut myself with numerous flint flakes and implements ranging from 6000-3500 years old) - I'm sure someone can outdo that...
The hazards of archival work

Today I got a papercut on my finger from a glossy magazine from the 1960s while scanning it

Gouda, Sint Janskerk, Day 7, window 7, The King's Window, given by Philip II of Spain. Made by Dirck Crabeth, 1557-59. Placed in the north transept, the window is 20m tall. Badly damaged by storm, almost all the OT half is a 1910-11 restoration. Much of NT half too. But still outstanding.

Gut wrenching news coming out of Spain - the death toll has climbed even while I've been reading all I can on it. Absolutely no clarity as to what's happened yet, so ignore anyone saying otherwise.

Just saw that the Minnesotans have broken out the supersoakers and water balloons against the Nazis and I’m ngl, that’s inspired

Subtweet at half of this website: the consensus among contemporary historians is that the UK's actions in the late 1930s (rapid re-armament while diplomatically stalling for time) were reasonable in the context, with the genuine failure having been "not starting to re-arm five years before".

Blue Nile. Eritrean place in Woolwich, in an old butchers shop, still with hooks in the ceiling. We ate whatever they decided to serve us idk you just told them meat or veggie and got what you got and it was always glorious. Just really lovely people and lovely food. Everyone’s grandparents type

please tell me about your favorite lost restaurant (closed for at least 5 years, like I really want you to go back into the vault), why you loved it and what you ate there

somebody please remind me in about the middle of the day tomorrow that some part of my rocking chair is squeaking horrifically and needs wd40

I’m honestly not sure there can be much doubt. The reverse, too.
Queer folks existed in the same proportions in the past as they do now, but without any societal protections or understanding
Literally impossible to prove, but I would bet that for every case of someone AFAB living as a man historically who was exposed there are a dozen who weren’t.

Welsh words aren’t hard to pronounce! It’s a totally phonetic language!*

*Years ago I failed a pronunciation test at a Welsh radio station, had never heard of Tredegar. Still embarrassed.
There should be mandatory training/classes for all radio presenters on how to pronounce the most well known Welsh place names

I’m not expecting any of ‘em to be able to roll out the full llanfair pg but stumbling over Llandudno or Llangollen in the year of 2026 should be a sackable offence

European relationships, particularly in the west, are incredibly like a sibling rivalry. we fight all the time but the minute somebody outside tries to fuck anyone up, absolutely not, gtfo
The Argentine war plan, terrible as it was, was partly predicated on the idea they could attrit the British expeditionary force through the resupply contracts they had with the French.

The moment they attacked us, the reply to "when will our Exorcets arrive?" Instantly became a very Gallic shrug.

as a digression though, what in the Zack Pinsent is an 1812 5k lmao, i desire to witness this
I was in an 1812 themed 5K once (long story) and the pace setter was a woman in a regency gown hauling a copy of that portrait. Wish I had a photo.

Nuanced take: I think it's really important to give *normal citizens* who supported Trump and off-ramp and *professional writers, pundits and politicians* who supported Trump should have to wear it like a scarlet letter for the rest of their lives
This is aggravating, because on the one hand I think it's really important to give fascists an off-ramp and positive reinforcement when they use it...

...on the other hand, FUCK that guy, in particular.
