I once again apologise to anyone who followed me for professional reasons
Here’s the thing: I don’t disagree with this and I also think a lot of people don’t realise how impossible it is to actually do. Do you live anywhere except Russia, NK, China? Do you have a bank account? There’s a 95% your bank ascribes to USA policies and governance.
It’s time for the world to Boycott, Divest and Sanction the U.S
Avoid the Olympics, World Cup and other sporting events. There’s no reason to celebrate the 250 birthday of this fallen nation

After reading the Redwall books, I have a literary criteria to which all books must be subjected. Are the depictions of rich cooking central to the plot?

I call it the Beschamel Test.

just gonna reshare this post (and thread) because I think it's really important that people understand how we all use social media differently. some simply want to chat, some want to joke, or offload, or muse. These are not all opportunities for debate
I am begging the users of this wesbite - of all the websites that work like this - to understand the basic fucking manners that are involved in talking to other people on here. If you hit Reply, the original poster is going to take that as a direct response to what they said, because it is.

I've had it muted more or less since I've had an account here and never once missed hearing about the latest idiocy. It helps to dial the volume down though.
General reminder that if you mute the current US president's surname on here, you will miss absolutely zero important news. Even right now. But your timeline will do way less stacking damage to your mental health.

There may be snow on the ground but today we are closer to the sun than any other day! Here in the northern hemisphere it may be cold and dark, but remember, light and warmth are always closer than they appear
At 5.15pm GMT today, the Earth will be at perihelion, the closest point to the Sun in our annual round.

This should be the start of the year. Happy new orbit, everyone!

When I was a student at Magdalen, the myth was that the Hall was candlelit and fire-heated because the building got listed before proper electricity was installed and now they aren’t allowed to. As an adult in the field I don’t *think* that’s true, but… one does wonder
Magdalen's candle budget is eye watering. Both the Chapel and the Hall are predominantly candle-lit.

HEY WRITERS! Do any of you write creative nonfiction, particular sort of shorter form humor/memoir sort of stuff? I'm looking for some basic craft resources to share with someone else & this is not my area!

I've been tracking the spread of nonconsensual deepfakes on X for more than two years. Here's a timeline of how Musk's leadership allowed the practice to flourish from a once-underground market to a viral trend, with little recourse for victims or legal enforcement.

i want to be clear that when i saw this meme, i debated doing it accurately, and then instead decided to skip 90% of my actual list in favour of making a point instead
So I'm not doing the 'introduce yourself with what almost killed you' thing because honestly that list starts at birth and just KEEPS ON GOING, and like, I am not @oldenoughtosay.com levels of funny enough to not instantly traumatise 25% of you with the list......

there are endless headlines about "grok apologizes" or "grok says it will be fixed" after it generated CSAM using pictures of minors and zero headlines about "grok being shut down" or "musk and xAI in big legal trouble" and I think something fundamental has broken here

everyone get ready for my thread on 20th and 21st century non-arson church fires
I love church So Much. It's always like this. Like, yes. We WILL spend £100,000 on candles in 2026. You're correct , finance software. The deficit will be immense. And God will delight in my masterful conflagration.
It's the new financial year in the CofE and I've not yet put in the new budget numbers but we've had some invoices to pay and our finance system is now projecting we'll spend [checks notes] £100,000 on candles

somebody who is good at the economy help me with this, etc

It's a weird thing in paganism that people will try to claim their belief is better bc there's some evidence people did it in the past, but will also *hard side-eye at popular witchcraft author* completely misinterpret and mis-cite the evidence that *is* there & get stroppy when called out about it
every time I go to a pagan moot I meet an overly confident cishet man who insists that his flavour of paganism is The Best bc it's based on something from long ago, when actually there's scant evidence, & anyway who cares. & these cishet men get into an fight abt whose paganism is best. hilarious

I really do think that social media does not lend itself to nuanced or balanced conversations on complex topics so all I’m gonna say is: I do not personally want to risk seeing CSAM or non consensual nudity whilst scrolling, so, while my handle remains, I do not

I got to watch this unfold in real life when some architectural archaeologists came to St Nicks and one was like "this bit is from the year x" and another one went "Hmmm... Possibly..." And the first one STOOD UP and got right in his face and yelled "NOT 'POSSIBLY'! NOT! 'POSSIBLY'!!" It was great.
