Also, a lot of people appear similarly unable to understand them in any terms other than personal gain. You can support abolishing late fees if you've never returned a book late in your life! You can support bike lanes if you don't or can't ride a bike! They work if they directly benefit you or not.
Abolishing library late fees/any intervention to address car dependency:

"One on hand, it's been objectively demonstrated to work by any useful metric but also I feel like it doesn't & it'd mean people I look down on get away with something & when you really think about it that's what's important."

what people perceive as rightwing anti-intellectualism and anti-expertise trends are 100% seeping into the overly-online-left in the form of whatever this is and the related ‘if stories are about a topic or character they are endorsing that and if you try to analyze it you are also endorsing it”

Have you ever communed with a tree spirit on Twelfth Night? 🍏✨ This week on the blog, we've shared a recipe for mulled cider wassail, plus:

- Why do we sing to the apple trees in January?
- Who was the Apple Tree Man?
- What were wassail bowls made from?

How to Make Warm, Spiced Wassail — Butser Ancient Farm
Have you ever communed with a tree spirit on Twelfth Night? Before the industrialisation of the 18-19th centuries, the festive season looked very different. Today, Christmas generally begins in earl...

Genuinely one of my favourite moments of this past month was hearing the gas workers surprise when a pizza car arrived, the kids are alright
I think only half a dozen families actually evacuated- a few also had their electricity shut off- and the rest of us took turns doing the tea and coffee round because it was as cold as a polar bears tit.

The village teens ordered the workers a pizza delivery lmao

I think smol is really on to something here. Obviously Trump is bad and we all know that, but some of y’all have fully dedicated yourselves to hating him in a way that leaves no room for anything else, and honestly that’s a terrifying way to live life
Genuinely fascinating scrolling through the replies here. Like, maybe there's something in this Trump Derangement Syndrome thing? Not quite in the way they mean it, but there are certainly people who seemingly dedicate their online lives to riling each other up with bad memes and cutesy nicknames.
oh is the traitors back on tv? none of you have mentioned it??

I know I go on and on about how good Hybrid Hate is, but one thing it captures that very few books about racism do is that racism is deadly, dangerous and can be very powerful- but it is also incredibly funny because it is a guaranteed way to become madder and stupider.
"Mad, stupid shit" is the perfect definition of racism.
Good article this. Racism really is the reverse of a performance-enhancing drug, the mad, stupid shit it leads people to believe in and to do:

as a side note, tell me how my kids can sleep through trucks and jackhammering up a road all night right outside their window but they wake up if I flush the toilet on the other side of the house
They worked through the night, in shifts, around fifteen-twenty people at a time.

For the next five days. Around the clock

I mean technically it wasn’t even OUR chaos, the gas leak was across the street

This poster is one of the best on here and I’m so sad we’re losing her because of the appalling harassment she has been subjected to. Of course she must look after herself. And the rest of us need to do whatever we can to challenge and change this cruel, sick, dangerous, culture.
I‘m discontinuing my social media use for the foreseeable future and I want to explain why.

I woke up in the new year to discover that some guy on here had saved photos I took on New Year’s Eve and used Grok to remove my clothes. I know this because he showed me.

INNOCENT
This red squirrel ate through a window screen to break into the cottage, knocked over a large container of peanuts, got the lid off and ate them all, then swanned about the place knocking over small lamps until the next time people arrived
