Jane Austen, Murderbot, Good Omens, Doctor Who, Sherlock Holmes fan. Occasionally a stoic philosopher, often a writer, currently a quilter. Trying to post more about books & less about politics.

#31daysofgraves Day 22: Landscape. One of the many vistas of Lake View Cemetery, Cleveland Ohio
I want “famously reclusive author” so bad I can taste it!
What do you want to be when you grow up?

1. famous lost explorer
2. famously reclusive author
3. infamous cheese smuggler
4. I refuse to grow up
#31daysofgraves Day 21: Bronze. I think that’s bronze under all that tarnish… Salisbury Cathedral

Slightly bragging because I’m the one who suggested it, but seriously, y’all, this book is AMAZING! From the Great Storm of 1913 through Gordon Lightfoot recording the song, this book covers everything!
From this extraordinary thread I chose The Gales of November and it's incredible so far, highly recommend (so much I never knew about it the Great Lakes!)
My recent book-buying binge included my own copy because I didn’t want to give the library’s back. Isn’t it fascinating?
She doesn’t want it. She didn’t last time and she wants it less now. I don’t think she’s even in town.
It’s also the site of the the First Lady’s offices and we know how that expletive treats women.
They can choose to take this job and you can choose to let them know this is the last job they’ll ever be hired to do. Such a pity they decided to go out breaking the law for a guy famous for stiffing his contractors.
Many people are outraged that Trump is demolishing part of the White House. But of course Trump can't do it without help. It's ACECO LLC of Silver Spring MD ("full-service demolition") that is tearing down the People's House. You can call them and let them know how you feel. 1/
It’s not the first time he’s ripped down historic buildings just to shit on people. He’s doing it because he wants to live in Temu Versailles. That it hurts people and shows utter disrespect are bonuses; he thinks it shows dominance, like his stupid handshakes.

#31daysofgraves Day 20: Wreath. This stunner is covering the names at St Anne’s Historic Cemetery, Lonaconing Maryland and I didn’t want to disturb it.

When you are pure of heart no amount of earnestness is Cringe. When you are a malevolent little freak no amount of sarcasm is enough to make you cool
Vibe shift in the culture towards earnestness

Writers: Ok so the heist team will include someone to get close to the curator's son and seduce him into revealing the whereabouts of the key that we will then briefly steal and make a copy of and return without anyone noticing via second to second precision and thats how we get in

Real thieves:
LOL! You can blame Richard Roberts for that; a while ago he was handing out titles and dubbed me Keeper of the Really Smart Words and Heir to the Stewardship of Words That Are Cozy.

I promptly changed my handle because who could pass THAT up?!

Two books for spooky season:
COFFIN MOON, Keith Rosson: Best modern vampire story ever (although it's set in the 70s).
THE TWISTED ONES, by T. Kingfisher: It lures you in with chatty good humor (especially about NPR Pledge Week) and a lovely dog...then slams the door and bites you in the dark.
Also, part of the soothing in buying books is the implicit promise that the time to read is also being purchased…
Tsundoku, which was very nearly chosen as my screen name for LJ.
There are a couple more I want to get, but they don’t come out until the very end of the month. Can I wait that long? Not sure.
Book Rec: Raising Hare by Chloe Dalton, who found herself unexpectedly raising a newborn hare during lockdown. It’s honestly soothing; a respite in these times.

Sherlock fans, the audiobook is read by Louise Brealey.
Book buying is a self-soothing thing for me. Which may explain why I bought 2 dozen books in the last 8 days.

*reads timeline*

I don’t think I bought enough.
