New trans girl Claire just found out the members of her fav Portland band are magical girls - and she's one, too! Now she’s out of the closet as the newest member of Magica Riot!

Check out the book Strange Horizons called "brilliant trans joy," in print, ebook, and audio. magicariot.com/magicariot
Artwork of the cover art of "Magica Riot," featuring protagonist Claire in her purple magical girl costuming posing in front of the St. Johns Bridge in Portland, Oregon. Across the top, artwork of her and the other four main characters in a park is placed. Around the book art are placed several blocks of text: "trans protagonist," "entirely queer cast," "found family energy," "thrilling action," "music-based magic," "goopy monsters," "useless lesbians," "modern-day Portland." A quote from Strange Horizons Magazine calling the book "Brilliant trans joy" comes next. Finally, text at the bottom reads: "Recommended if you like Sailor Moon, Symphogear, Pretty Cure, Power Rangers"

Look you just have to make the cool weird shit that excites you. You must. In this world besieged by bland, scrubbed boring, computer slop, you must. Make the thing you’re embarrassed to make, the thing that feels “too much” because otherwise we get drowned in a sea of cowardly work made by a button

Instead of spending a fortune to revive ancient IP, just ... make something new. Maybe it'll also bomb, but maybe you'll create a new franchise.

@lisalamanfilmfan.bsky.social says this all the time, with more eloquence.

About a month ago, the Trump administration got rid of the de minimis exemption, whereby packages valued under $800 could slide in without import duties. Now there's a backlog as the government can't process all of this paperwork, leading to UPS just destroying packages
Business Insider headline reads: UPS is telling customers that their packages coming to the US are marked for destruction.

I've thought about these two Achewood panels a lot over the last year
Two panels from Achewood. In the first, Ray is riding in a motorcycle sidecar. He is looking at Roast Beef and saying, "Damn. This is a thing, isn't it?"

In the second panel, Roast Beef is driving the motorcycle, looking ahead. He is saying, "This is completely a thing. Our every move is the new tradition."

A thing I think a lot of cishet folks don't appreciate is how reluctant many of us are to trust these days

And how much harder it gets when the few we do let us down

Writing my queer magical girl rock band is now, officially, my job. So, if you'd like to support me, please consider buying a copy of the first book! The sequel is nearly ready for its big debut, so you're getting in on the ground floor of a new magical girl universe. 🥰 magicariot.com/buy

A little wip of YCH comm of Nova that I'm working on for @magicariot.com
A cropped digital art, "Your Character Here" commission of Nova from Magica Riot: Maidensong Magica Book 1, posing with a v sign hand gesture with a big smile. She has pale skin tone, light blue hair tied in pigtails, a bow tie matching her hair color, fingerless black gloves, a white v-neck shirt with a dark blue jacket.

Fashy Cinemasins

That's what this is, the effect the proliferation of "anti-woke" youtube grifters have had on their audiences as a whole, stunting their ability to engage with media and training them to look for "DEI sins" to call out, atrophying their ability to enjoy the games they're playing.
