Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

First, it staves off apathy, cynicism, and despair.

Second, it demonstrates to those who might use violence against innocent civilians that they would be doing so against grannies, kids, neighbors.

I don’t have any answers about what we need to do. But like, we did protests in 2017, and 2020. Among the biggest in NATIONAL HISTORY. Voting in my opinion has a much more direct effect than this.

The numbers I am seeing, and the breadth of people and places with basically no arrests and so forth, seem to me an unqualified political loss for them. It is a show of strength rather than the fight itself, but you can’t downplay it.

So seeing all this is so awesome even though I couldn't go today. Hell I have been up since 4 am (I had to wake up at 6 but woke at 4 and then was too afraird to go back to sleep because adhd) and took an edible but I am too jacked up from the media coverage to fall asleep

this is especially the case if you live in a red state like me. Everything is run by Republicans. There is no left leaning media- all the local media is consolidated right wing crap, same with the tv stations. It's just as right wing and stupid as you can imagine.

let's all remember that one of the more important benefits of these protests is for your mental health. Yes showing solidarity and standing up and sending a message is important. But so is just being around people who see things the same way as you.
