#25SongsFrom2025 Day 8

Molly Sanden - Trophy (Sweden)

Breathy Swedish Pop with a surprising 80s texture to it. Picked up on BlueSky from... someone. Guess I could just do a search but it's bedtime.

I still have a folder of OHP transparencies in case I am one day able to teach in a room with a working OHP and no projector or IWB.
What skill did you master that you will never, ever use again?

Archival research feels like it’s full of these, but then there’s always one throwback archive with a microfiche machine or a paper catalogue (or, indeed: NARA)
What skill did you master that you will never, ever use again?

Summer of '95 I had a job assembling single-use film cameras, which I did enough that I can still perform the actions. I don't think they even sell them anymore, but even if they do I'm certainly never going to be making them again!

Lung Leg feat. Lora Logic - Girls

Another one of my all-time faves back after a whole quarter of a century away, it has been quite the year.

Seen this episode of The Simpsons a few times before but suddenly this gag hit and I lolled, not their smartest joke but a brilliant one all the same.

The mower stalled, twice; kneeling, I found
A hedgehog jammed up against the blades,
Killed. It had been in the long grass.

I had seen it before, and even fed it, once.
Now I had mauled its unobtrusive world
Unmendably. Burial was no help:

"Worst Song Ever" is an odd category because there are many different ways a song can be unpleasant to someone, many of them not just to do with the music, and people tend to treat their own taste in music as definitive and not requiring analysis or even explanation.
Lots of takes on "We Built This City" today, apparently.
It's not a song I have ever deliberately chosen to listen to, but its status as canonical "worst song ever" is far more tedious than the song itself. It's neither bad enough nor interesting enough to be worth the performative hatred.

Jim Diamond has this unsettling glint in his eye like he's about to snap, you still get plenty of guys like that in the office and the pub, but it would be refreshing to get a few back in the charts. #totp

Kevin Sanderson - Detroit (USA)

One of the Techno OG with an example of one of my favourite microgenres - a song about a scene. Please feel free to share more examples!

World cup draw is so far bizarre and wrong, but not in a good way. Lauryn Hill just did a set after disappearing for a quarter century and sad to say it was bad not good.

(It starts ten minutes in, but it would be just rude to skip past Secret Friend, which is pure unremixed McCartney and one of the greatest bonus tracks of all time)
