New people! I choose to present myself as a cat here as a warning about the level of capriciousness I display.

I will hiss at you and block you for a bad vibe. I don't give a fuck. Your rug may be subjected to the full force of the Strategic Pissing Initiative.

I won't use grocery delivery because they underpay their drivers. That's why I go to the mom and pop grocery store in my neighborhood that pays disabled people subminimum wage and sometimes misses payroll, like a woke person

“but someone needs to talk about the tech right” someone has. my Phd, written a decade ago, was about tech right and tech masculinity. i’m an expert in it and i hate neoreactionaries. but i get more insults to my very being, more “you should be shoved in a locker,” here than i did in high school

Gotta say, I really don't like how casually people engage in Two-Minute Hate against anyone who works with computers and doesn't fit their subcultural vibe.
I don't know what's more unhinged, the repeating lies peddled about me for years now, or the "I saw Goody Proctor Dancing with the Devil!" response.

I radically underestimated how busted the average user here is, apparently
Folks are really playing the bad take hits already and I’m unsure whether they are getting it out of their systems ahead of the holidays or just workshopping exactly how they’re going to be a burden on their families for dinner on Thursday

this might be a drug-addled policy change, as is the style these days, but a slightly more motivated theory is that it's the result of an internal far-right faction fight, an attempt to embarrass nativist groups for being misled en masse by swarthy foreign hustlers.

i have agreed with stancil and i have disagreed with stancil. he has sharp elbows. but the accusation that he is a raging transphobe is not connected to reality. and the weaponization of "i'm listening to trans people" to smear someone because you disagree about fucking econ polling is disgusting
No, I do not “pick on” trans people, I have never done anything like this. And frankly, I think the willingness of some people to completely invent accusations of transphobia in the desperate search for a cudgel against ideological opponents suggests they don’t really care about transphobia
Listen dude, you can try and ride for this guy all you want, but the trans userbase of this platform fucking hates him because he picks on them. I'm going to listen to the trans people I know who are telling me he's bad. Plus I've been in these threads and seen it

Ok I read the article so you don’t have to and honestly it isn’t as obnoxious as the headline but it’s not leaning into the most interesting part of the question, which is “why do we still know so little about human consciousness that we can’t easily explain why a talking machine isn’t conscious”
can’t fucking catch a breath

What apparently everyone except Senate Democrats understands is that the survival of Democrats, perhaps literally, depends on Trump hitting Ceaușescu levels of unpopularity.

This goal is not helped if Senate Democrats do anything at all to reduce the harm Trump is inflicting on the American people.

You may want to imagine yourself as that guy who says loud no to fascism when everybody around cheers yes. Who knows, you may be that guy. You should definitely try to be them, when and if the moment comes. But the clear odds are that you'd be one of the people cheering or keeping quiet.

To be blunt, most people's lesson from "listen to marginalized voices" was "find the first person who claims to be marginalized and agrees with my priors and use it as a permission structure to call the ones who disagree with me uncle toms"
I genuinely do not think it is possible for non marginalized people to uplift marginalized voices at least through something as crude as social media shares. I Basically never see someone share a marginalized perspective they disagree with, so then all you are doing is amplifying your own view.
But people like MRO are doing the whole "Listen 👏 to 👏 Palestinians" and presenting their most deranged poasters, kinda like the weird Hasbarah accounts who do the same thing with Jews, and the Jewish Voice you should Listen to ends up being Meir freaking Kahane ימ"ש

RFK Jr. is neither a joke nor a well-intentioned proponent of public health with a few kooky beliefs. He's a menace, evil even by the standards of Trump's inner circle, and the failure of the political press to convey this is maddening
I actually think it’s okay to take a ridiculous scandal seriously when it involves a wingnut conspiracy theorist in charge of things like vaccine policy and pandemic preparedness

This is honestly what I've been stuck on all day, in addition to the absurd level of weakness it exposes.

This is the "weird," but in their use of the office.
Targeting Kelly is one of those “this is why we’ll win” moments, bc it shows how politically impetuous this admin is.

There’s clearly no adult in the room to say “wait, maybe don’t go after the charismatic war hero turned literal astronaut who ran after his wife was a victim of political violence.”
Mark Kelly: "My wife, Gabby Giffords, meeting with her constituents, shot in the head. Six people killed around her, a horrific thing. She spent six months in the hospital. We know what political violence is and we know what causes it too, The statements that Donald Trump made incites others."

What they said about Harris never was about being opposed to wars.

It was about being opposed to a woman commanding them and defending our allies and classical liberal values.

They never opposed following Donald Trump to commit plunder, rape, and murder for fun.

I hope that everyone who wrote that Dems were the Forever War Party and that Trump was a peace candidate gets drafted
*aggressive whinging noises*: "Yes I was completely fucking wrong and everyone could tell at the time I was wrong and I'm a giant credulous dipshit but have you considered: he SAID he was the anti-war candidate and that was all that really mattered but of COURSE it was always dubious"

All the instances that I scrolled through saying Trump was not anti-war were all 2025 post-election posts petulantly insisting that he'd been saying that ALL ALONG before the election, but w/the exception of one "I didn't say it like THAT" thread the week election day the rest are basically all:

I think people should realize here that Mark Kelly is a very savvy politician who doesn't really move from where his constituents are and is notoriously careful because he's a democrat from Arizona.

The fact that he's doing this isn't just presidential ambition, it means his voters want it.

but my general experience is that big models are hitting a wall and smaller (not small, not really) models are catching up to them. which is also really really good. GLM-4.5/4.6 is also a really interesting thing to check out

this also means no AGI for you, sam altman, which I am also okay with.

my hunch is (and this is generally unanswerable, this is vibes) that what you're describing is closer to "things you have to prompt better for and clearer for" than "things newer models are inextricably better at", which aligns with what I'm saying

Claude Opus 4.5, and why evaluating new LLMs is increasingly difficult
Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.5 this morning, which they call “best model in the world for coding, agents, and computer use”. This is their attempt to retake the crown for …

At this point we don’t even need to see them, canceling the reports alone says plenty about how bad the numbers must be.
First they cancelled the jobs report and gave us a DoorDash economic summary instead.

Now the third quarter GDP report is cancelled.

But the economy is great right? Nothing to see here!
