It's a shame Orwell is so often reduced to 1984 and Animal Farm, which are so commonly abused to have become worthless cliches, when his non-fiction is so interesting and still relevant today. His obsession with language and politics is particularly interesting to think about now

like, for NY, when i go work in NYC, I owe tax based on that, and their form is like "What'd you put on the federal form and what % of that is NYS? cool, taxed at regular rates, fill the rest out."

my sister lives here in NJ, but she's done work physically in her company's office in california

this makes that income taxable, so she has to file a non-resident tax return. it's 11 pages. with columns. I do her taxes for her and hate california because of this
