“As a matter of plain reality, an unarmed speedboat, even if it is carrying cocaine, is not a warship. And none of the 11 people aboard — not merely the two initial survivors, but also the nine people the U.S. military killed in its first strike — were fighting anyone.”

My constituent, Wilmer, was mauled by an ICE attack dog despite the fact that, as he has consistently explained, he was not resisting arrest or trying to flee—his wife and young children, all U.S. citizens, were forced to watch helplessly as Wilmer was violently attacked and dragged away.

It happened again: The Trump administration has admitted illegally deporting a man to Guatemala despite an immigration judge's order that he was likely to be tortured there.

A judge has ordered the administration to facilitate his return by next week.storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Hey @kenwhite.bsky.social,

Is it advisable to disrespect a judge like this who has expressed a willingness to push forward on criminal contempt charges because “justice requires [it]”?
DOJ tells Judge Boasberg that Noem, Blanche, and Mazzara have no more to say than the nothing they have already said and urges him to refer them for criminal contempt or not without requiring further testimony. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

NEW: Kristi Noem, Todd Blanche, and Joseph Mazzara identify themselves (and now-judge Emil Bove) as the decision-makers involved in directing deportation flights to El Salvador despite Judge Boasberg's order. Their declarations are otherwise substance-free. www.courtlistener.com/docket/69741...

Pop culture has always been dumb and derivative but I still encourage folks to push the boundaries of culture, because it makes life far more interesting and enjoyable
Pop culture is steadily getting simpler, dumber, more repetitive, and less innovative, mainly because giant piratic entertainment conglomerates don't like to take risks.

You don't have to passively accept this! Fight it!
Is This the Worst-Ever Era of American Pop Culture?
An emerging critical consensus argues that we’ve entered a cultural dark age. I’m not so sure.

Were the COVID school closures worth the long-term effects on early childhood learning? How long was too long to keep them closed?

Is draconian immigration enforcement worth the risk of widespread civil unrest?

These are legitimate questions that are NOT answered by “your government knows best.”
Liberty and safety will always be at odds, and the way forward is NOT “jam it down their throats” the same way that the way forward on immigration enforcement is NOT “jam it down their throats.”

The most important thing we need to build right now is a liberalism with teeth. We value an open, democratic society, but movements whose express aim is to undermine that society should feel the full violence of the state. Fascists should spend their lives trembling in obscurity.
