Finally, "angel" is just a job title, "messenger", and it's not until centuries after the Christian Bible was written that Jews and Christians independently agreed that angels were a category or kind of distinct created entity rather than a job title for some general spiritual beings.

What should be clear is that all of these beings are presented as having a human form, possibly with additions. The Christian Bible and apocryphal texts offer no real counterexamples, either. Monstrosity is reserved for the beasts in the Revelation of John.

What does burning have to do with snakes, and why are these figures called snakes or "burnings"? One of them does purify Isaiah with a hot coal, but it is a mystery.

Seraphim (singular saraph) are tricky. The singular word means "burning", but it is typically used in the Hebrew Bible to mean a snake. Isaiah uses "seraphim" (always in the plural) to refer to a type of celestial being in the divine court, with six wings, feet, a face, and hands.

So it is generally thought that cherubim outside of Ezekiel would have been understood as chimeras like the lamassu- body of a bull or steer, head of a human (possibly with bull's horns and ears) and the wings of an eagle, although some people identify them with the Hittite "griffin".

The only time cherubim have a definite description is in Ezekiel, where they have human bodies, wings, and four faces. However, the word is probably cognate with an Assyrian word for the lamassu or shedu, they pull the chariot of God, and their spread wings serve as a seat for God.

A very very quick version: the term "angel", when it is applied in all of these texts, always means a being with the form of a human or with an undescribed form.

There are also separate beings, the cherubim and the seraphim, which became conflated into angels as a category outside of these texts.

I've said it before but guys, most angels in the Torah just look like pretty or scary people. The really wild weird stuff is often either folkloric or apocrypha.

Look, you can visit preserved pueblos from well before contact at Agua Fria NM, Montezuma Castle NM, Canyon de Chelly NM... people did not live out in the middle of the desert, they went up and they found shade and they managed heat and water.
