like. there isnt a guy who issues statements you can take to represent the islamic position on something. catholicism has this guy, and the guy in question spent the mid-1800s calling separation of church and state a heresy
got into an argument with someone nominally liberal but opposed to muslim immigration in europe and accidentally veered into anti-catholicism when i pointed out that the catholic church under pius IX was unambiguously more hostile to liberalism than islam now

Trump did not run on a concrete affordability platform. If anything Harris focused on the issue far more. I know this has become a thing people say, but it’s a retcon to paper over the uncomfortable reality that 2024 makes no sense according to conventional wisdom about how to win elections.
A lot of the 2024 postmortem brought out how democrats ran on an abstract "democracy" arguments while trump ran on a concrete affordability platform.
Affordability got Trump's party voted in, and it's what's going to get him voted out, and if Ds lean in on it too hard, will get them voted out too.

yea idk. i wonder if this is just about optics. even in a reflexively anti-immigration electorate the republicans so consciously ape the aesthetics of movie villains that its impossible to ignore what theyre doing and why.
In the US we're at least seeing some thermostatic backlash towards more pro-immigration positions, but the UK equivalent seems to be a ratchet effect towards "deport them all"
