yea idk. i wonder if this is just about optics. even in a reflexively anti-immigration electorate the republicans so consciously ape the aesthetics of movie villains that its impossible to ignore what theyre doing and why.
In the US we're at least seeing some thermostatic backlash towards more pro-immigration positions, but the UK equivalent seems to be a ratchet effect towards "deport them all"
