It’s impossible to overstate how much “abolish ice” is the normie position now here in chicago — just countless random moms at toddler soccer on a park district field asking me where I bought my anti-ice t-shirt. average people don’t like our neighborhoods being terrorized.

A friend ran the Chicago marathon today and said he couldn’t count the number of FUCK ICE signs along the way.

Oh if that's the goal then I would have mentioned in the secret bookshelf door/secret book room, too, of course, that's the pièce de résistance.

(Also the secret button inside the bust would either open that door or turn off all my WiFi/block cell service so I had to actually disconnect, not sure.)
escapedexplorer.bsky.social
...yes. I'm thinking it's also a "floor-to-ceiling bookshelves that need a rolling ladder" situation. Also some sort of interesting window situation, maybe with a telescope nearby?

(Posssibly a bust on a bookshelf with a hidden button inside it, but that depends on the contractor estimate tbh.)

I think part of the derangement of things is the fact that every single member of the secret police knows that there is a decent chance that literally anything they do will be filmed and put on the internet. And if their face is showing, they'll be identified within minutes.

Trump promised free plane tickets and $1,000 “exit bonuses” to immigrants who opted to self-deport.

ProPublica spoke to a dozen Venezuelan immigrants who said they followed the president’s instructions, yet never received the promised assistance.

Well, I have this concerning urge to go to bed at reasonable times, modern slang is increasingly inscrutable and that *doesn't bother me*, and I've developed a habit of thinking "okay, but if I *DID* have a house with a library in it, I would need a tweed jacket too, right?" only SEMI-ironically.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

So Kilmer Abrego-Garcia will not challenge a deportation to Costa Rica, who has agreed to for him residency, but DHS won’t agree to send him there because it’s not cruel enough.

www.nytimes.com/2025/10/10/u...
For weeks, Mr. Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran national who is married to a U.S. citizen, has made clear that he would not challenge his deportation if he were sent to Costa Rica, which has promised him legal residency and guaranteed that he would not be sent back to El Salvador.

But the Trump administration has refused to deport him to Costa Rica, and in an earlier hearing this week, Judge Xinis pressed the administration to consider the option or clarify why it was unacceptable.
