I guess an intro is in order!

Hi I’m Elle (published as Lynsay Hodges), a PhD student @ Goldsmiths.

My research uses autoethnography, participatory methods, and media analysis to investigate the lives of sexual violence survivors and the assemblages of survival that form.

Say hi if you like! 👋
There are books on sale that look amazing and useful for my work but there are two problems:

1. I have no money to buy them (I had unexpected expenses this month)

2. My TBR pile is enormous and I only have around 1.5 months (max) in which to read it all

I am writing an academic CV for ~reasons~ but I am also readjusting to having pregabalin in my system (after fuck ups with it being issued which left me without it for a week) and my god, this is HARD and NOT FUN and I do not want to do it yet I must

(Yes I am throwing a tantrum on the timeline)

If Corbyn and Sultana truly wanted a left-wing parliamentary project to threaten Labour and combat Reform, they’d join and campaign for the Green Party (and stop fucking up on the very-easy-to-be-right-about topics of transphobia and the SW-fucking-P).

So the BBC did a news story on the horrible conditions in the hotels were people seeking asylum are forced to live and instead of the media talking about humanity and compassion about improving conditions and letting them work, this was the outcome:
So how exactly are they meant to get to them? Many are placed in areas without accessible transport links. They can't afford to pay for journeys themselves because of how little support they get.
Yet again Labour choosing to pander to Reform than think of consequences.

Government to ban asylum seekers from using taxis
The ban is set to come in February and any exemptions will have to be signed off by the Home Office.

I think I’d do a lot of things but mainly I wouldn’t have to worry about money anymore and I do honestly think that’d solve between 40–60% of my Madness
Honest question: If everyone got Universal Basic Income, no strings attached, what would YOU do with it?

“The question of language isn’t one of finding the right, approved word. It’s about fundamentally rethinking the way we view the world”

A good article on how us disability activists can get hung up on language choice alone, to the detriment of wider conversations about systemic ableism

Payment processors are always cracking down on anything they deem degenerate and that means some of the softest SFW stuff that they simply do not like

Still, we should not forget who’s at the sharp end of this: sex workers. They, too, deserve to be paid for their work without jumping through hoops
I keep seeing people trying to play down the payment processor situation, saying it's only the extreme NSFW accounts getting sacked.

Well. One of the cutest SFW furry artist got banned from PayPal. What more proof do y'all need that we need to keep fighting the good fight?

Also go support Nakufin.
I'm devastated, if I don't find an alternative that works with argentinians I'm contemplating the worst, I can't do regular jobs, art was my job for around 15 years
I don't do nsfw even when people insist me to
my life was already crumbling and now I don't know what to do

"AI" image generators rely on the theft of the work of actual artists--having a moral objection to those images is not just about the superficial aesthetics of a presentation, its about your ethics as an academic.
The number of academics responding enthusiastically to this post makes me immediately less confident in their ability to discern the difference between how information is presented and the information itself
I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

JK Rowling got a full *decade* of press as a martyr for being "cancelled" (declared passe by people online) and meanwhile nobody considers it very interesting that a prominent left wing author is basically banned from entering or publishing in the United Kingdom for her politics
so this is like, one of the biggest free speech infringements by a western democracy in our lifetimes right?
