I’m starting to think about the February list for the Night Market Book Club read. I want to have a short list of novellas. For this purpose, a novella is a prose fiction piece 300 pages or less.

What are some of your favourites, and why?

So wait, who took *this* guy's picture??? Was there an infinitude of photographers up skyscrapers under construction taking pictures of photographers taking pictures of photographers [... repeat until infinity...] taking iconic shots of workers???
There's a good chance it was this guy, William Leftwich.

It is really refreshing to experience how maximalist our ancestors in the countryside were. In so I’ve seen, the driving force behind materials was to get the best. The finest colours, the best Syrian silk. And they had special embroidered gowns just for gardening in!
I finally tried doing some OG tatreez, the kind Palestinians were doing before the Nakba. Not pearl cotton from DMC but hand spun silk. I’m neither good at spinning nor embroidery but it’s interesting to see how it turned out.

I know you were waiting for me to talk about how the organizing to Utopia workshop went today. I had a great time. I wrote a lot and it was surprising just how gently the words came. I’m still processing it all, and perhaps I’ll share some of what I wrote. For now, I’m just grateful.

Not only are LLMs speedrunning a post-truth world where actual heroes who stop violent crimes get erased, but they have already contributed to convincing people to commit violent crimes.

Love yourself too much to let yourself be poisoned.
This is fucking grim. Somebody invented a white guy, an "IT professional" named Edward Crabtree, who stopped the Bondi shooting and spread it all over the internet, which was picked up by AI agents and slop aggregation sites.

The real hero is a fruit stand owner named Ahmed el Ahmed.

I’m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Hamza. Hamza was a barber who had opened his own shop before the war began. He lost his home and shop and most tragically his younger brother. He’s been trying to rebuild and to help his orphaned nieces and nephews Huda, 5, Tala, 3 and Sham, 1

I tried out the new Dutch oven with a roast chicken. I think it looks good! I tried a new recipe. The sumac looked funky so I decided to just use some of my family’s favourite seasoned salt along with the fresh herbs, lemon and garlic. I’ll do a taste test soon.

With windchill it feels like -13F outside, but mercifully today's highwire routine is complete.

Giant thanks for getting me home and being my net. I'm gonna eat and *recline* 🥱💜🐙
I have titty appointments to go to during today, another overnight call shift tonight, and high odds that I could be going to a birth and a half.

An immediate $150 goal for transportation funds will keep me from getring stranded in -6F weather.
My in-bio site is functional in a static business card kind of way. I know newsletters are what all the cool authors have, the way my neurology is set up newsletters are hell. But Ko-fi is a great place to catch up with me, and if we're accustomed to interacting my DMs can get you my Signal.
