He looked happy and very old. He’s of the generation of Palestinians who are dying now of old age, who remember Palestine before the occupation. He’s my father but to most of my peers he’s of their grandparents’ generation. I’ll remember him looking happy and old.

The father I knew and grieved has been gone for a very long time. In his place there’s someone about whom I have nothing to say that isn’t very ugly. I keep these truths to myself bc what is healing for me if knowing that I could talk about them, even if I choose not to.

I am no contact with my father. Have been for about… 24 years. Almost as old as I was when I stopped talking to him. I don’t hate him, but he’s why I’m disabled today. And one kindness that I do for us both is being non contact.

Liberation is something to embody and to constantly move through until that becomes our reality.

Reawakening my breathing and my awareness of my body helped me write summer off the most rich and healing words I’ve ever set down.

I am going to try to keep this up as a regular part of how I tend to myself as a creative being.

We talked about grief. How we are always carrying so much unprocessed grief not just for individuals we care about, but the entire world. Part of taking that healing journey is the breath, I think.
