Anyway last thing I’ll say on this is that I got my shit rocked all the time in college and I never cried to the media. TPUSA is their own concept of DEI for aggrieved white evangelical pussies and the fact that any group disproportionately wields this much power on campuses is fucking dumb

This thread is 💯. Labor precarity in academia means the evisceration of faculty governance and academic freedom, opening the door to administrative purges of the most vulnerable. And faculty-esp tenured faculty and academic leaders-who aren't defending their trans colleagues are enabling it.
So yeah, this is fundamentally about trans people and that cannot be elided, but the ways in which junior faculty are targeted and disposed of, while academic jobs are increasingly precarized, and political grandstanders seek to influence academic governance are fucking terrifying for everyone.

On #Crustmas we celebrate the entire diversity of crustaceans, especially the ones few people have ever seen before!

Don't forget to follow the hashtag or the crab feed for them
bsky.app/profile/did:...
there's an entire superorder (very big category) of crustaceans called Syncarids, and like 99% of them are tiny white eyeless sub-millimeter things living in cavewater, except in Tasmania, where they just casually live on the surface world like regular shrimp. infuriating

And if you would like to hear a podcast with me and Dr J talking about this Sex Jam, here you go. (Sexy java refers to his cup of coffee, not javascript)

Imagine deliberately denying yourself one of the best Christmas songs ever, written and sung by one of the soundest people to ever live. Couldn’t be me, because I’m a good person.

It really is precisely the inverse of how much work you actually are doing
The numbers in here are hilarious.

Do you use AI on the job?
Execs: 87%
Managers: 57%
Workers: 27%

Planned investment by 2030: $5T
"Necessary" annual revenue to justify that spend: $650B
Current annual revenue: $50B
Three years into the generative-AI wave, demand for the technology seems surprisingly flimsy

I'm of two minds about the term "AI fatigue" because it's not a correct description of the phenomenon — it's implying that these AI widgets were at some point useful — but it's evidence that even ardent boosters are facing a level of resistance they can't ignore.
my “AI is over” anecdote is that my wife was hired over the summer to write scripts for a big tech company explaining how to use their AI tools and after many rounds of revisions, the latest notes said “we’re finding a lot of AI fatigue among our users” and to remove all references to AI
Anecdotally on twitter seeing a big shift the last few days from every AI slop account saying every other creative field is “over” and they’re in control now to now posting about how nobody likes them and it’s not fair and they’ll persevere and real artists respect and uplift eachother

Well we could talk about the fact that everyone I’ve met who has recently moved to Walthamstow appear to nearly all be white and from the home counties, and the homeowners are definitely armed with £500k from mum and dad
If the entirety of your op/ed compares demographic changes in London to the Khmer Rouge's mass murder of millions of people, you are willingly engaged in stochastic terrorism, and should be held responsible for any and all violent actions committed by fascists against non-white people

I am old enough to remember when the unis forced everyone to return to the classrooms during covid, refused to allow anyone to take a gap year, and endangered us all because they wanted the rent money. But I guess they have a new scam now. Won't even need students soon!

Ask who is providing the infrastructure. Ask what outsourced private IT firms are taking a cut, and how big it is. Ask about staffing and the frequency of syllabus updates. Ask.

the primary thing that TPUSA provides to young conservatives is a blueprint for weaponizing the abject cowardice of university administrators against individual teachers and instructors, and university admins should take a long look in the mirror and think about what that says about them
OU has put the professor here on administrative leave:

If you're faculty in any sort of public college in a red state, you're liable to have someone make a spectacle of your course, assignments, or teaching, run to social media, and get you fired for it because they disagree. You can't run a university like this.
