Apologies to mutuals from Twitter if I haven't followed you back. The influx from Twitter has lead to a lot of new followers and it's very hard to keep track.

I'll hopefully get to you eventually.
lamentablyawake.bsky.social
Maybe the public has learnt, after it has happened repeatedly, that anything good Labour says they'll do will be followed up by Starmer giving a speech ~6 months later saying "things have changed, the world is different now, we can't do [good thing]."

65% of the way there. Can you help make it 66?
lamentablyawake.bsky.social
I hope you can still have a nice birthday regardless.

But as DOGE showed, as well as even further power grabs by Trump, very clear, longstanding rules need not be a barrier or glue on the gears of fascism if no one with power cares about them.
lamentablyawake.bsky.social
But not to the extent you'll delete your abusive post.

No buddy, I'm saying pumping a guy for five years after the war and then sending him home is not the same as inviting Von Braun to stay in the US and eventually making him the head of NASA.

I am stating the objective fact that what the US did was far worse.
lamentablyawake.bsky.social
To be clear, you're claiming that because your assertion Apel was similar to Von Braun was shown to be absurd you're declaring the entire discussion pointless.

Just flipping the table because you lost.
lamentablyawake.bsky.social
Oh absolutely but I think we, as in the public of the developed world, have to get out of the mindset that laws or constitutions have independent power.

The only way we're stopping fascism if the fascists are made to stop whether that's by forcing them to obey laws or by other means.
lamentablyawake.bsky.social
And this is obvious to anyone who has driven on a highway/motorway.

Legal speed limits are simply not enforced because it has been decided the political and practical cost of enforcing it is too high.

Saying "it's illegal" won't make those cars slow down.
lamentablyawake.bsky.social
The law or a constitution is not a magic spell with binding power in and of itself.

It's just a written down guideline that people have to be willing to obey and/or enforce.

If the powerful choose to ignore it or not enforce it than it is has no power.
lamentablyawake.bsky.social
It's true that the lack of a codified constitution and parliamentary sovereignty in the UK on paper means a fascist government would have a free hand to do anything.

But as we've seen with the US, a codified constitution is just as much of a gentleman's agreement as whatever the UK has.
lamentablyawake.bsky.social
The UK does not have a codified constitution. As much as it has a constitution at all it's a mix of convention and existing legislation.

And UK parliamentary soveriegnty means that the government in power can alter/remove any existing legislation with new legislation.

There's going to be very few right wing supporters of walkable cities and yet there was dunk after dunk from walkable city fans mocking a disabled person for suggesting their needs be considered.
lamentablyawake.bsky.social
Something that really sticks with me is that not long after I joined Bluesky (when a lot of people claim it was better) a post did serious numbers viciously mocking a disabled person for daring to suggest walkable cities wouldn't take into account disabled people's needs.

And more pointedly, we know the right hates disabled ppl. But liberals and the left have a massive ableism problem that is so deeply rooted and that the pandemic highlighted so clearly that we largely feel like we’re out here fighting alone
gravelinfluencer.bsky.social
I think the average person does not realize how ableist our entire country is, and relatedy how bad most media outlets are at covering disability issues.

People are really asking me why the mainstream news is barely reporting the closing of special ed dept at DoEd like all our big media companies aren't owned and run by absolute psychopaths.

Salvation Army seen feeding ICE today. For anyone who doesn't already know about their bigotry, here is more, No need to give them your money this Christmas, or ever.

It’s dinner time for the police. Appears to be pizza from a Salvation Army van.

Broadview’s “free speech” curfew starts soon, at 6pm.

IMHO, LLMs will be an economic negative for years.

They'll do a worse job than humans,

but will still replace humans because they're cheaper for employers,

but really they're costlier, it's just that lots of costs get externalized to society by our horrible energy/tax policies.

Lose-lose-lose.

Perfect posting from Tim Heidecker, 24 hours apart.
What an incredible experience, getting to perform at the Riyadh Comedy Festival. I left feeling grateful and humbled by his majesty's generosity. I'll never forget this memorial experience and all the fun we had. Hope to do it again soon. upon further reflection, there is a small part of me that feels I sent the wrong message, regarding the Riyahd Comedy Festival last night. While, I do think it's important for comedy to have the opportunity to thrive in all parts of the globe, there are some aspects of The Royal Highness, King Salmon and his leadership in the region that i don't agree with entirely, but it's a different culture when it comes to freedom and rights and I gotta respect that we are all different and have different values. My manager is now investigating the possibility of donating some of my fee to a charity for Vetrans of War.

I was going to joke that this was them Salazar-ing Starmer but then I remembered McSweeney has already boasted he's done that.

So Labour are, after 18 months in office, choosing to repeat implications the PM is a puppet.

Lol at "Praetorian Guard", but what's really amazing is that they're still using the "grown-ups back in charge" line. These people aren't simply dim - they are incapable of original thought.

But Elledge does control what he writes in his own posts.

And the post he chose to write was a repeat of the clickbait headline. Even though he knew it was misleading given he made his immediate followup post a get out of jail free card.

October! Spooky fundraiser!

As we made last month's extreme goal (thank you, thank you,) we're caught up on bills and fees!

That means we can set a slightly more reasonable goal: 2500!

Art theme: Abstract Animals!

Paypal in bio, if you're European: bank info in the DMs!

Jonn Elledge is not allowed to criticise or disagree with me or it is a hate crime.
lamentablyawake.bsky.social
Jonn Elledge knows he's a very good and nice person, so it's totally ok for him to trick and then shout abuse at people vastly less powerful than him.

"I was very clearly aware I was baiting people, to the extent I gave myself a get out of jail card in the next post, this shows you to be utterly in the wrong and deserving of abuse."
