"Respectful and understanding" - perhaps they were. I'm not. I don't think any of us should be. I think orgs that do this need to pay a heavy price for doing it. They're afraid of the power transphobes have: and so we must endeavour to build power of our own and to wield it uncompromisingly.
This part is *infuriating*. This cis woman heard an 80 year old trans woman say, 'This is the only place I've been respected as a woman IN MY LIFE.'
And did not immediately think, 'I will fight every inch like a dying badger to keep her in my organization.'

Boy Scouts have included all genders for a long time. There is no reason why Girl Guides can’t do the same. The number of cis boys who would want to join would likely be zero or very close to zero.

To be clear, WI and GG trustees will have been told they faced personal liability including bankruptcy for breaching fiduciary duty by involving their organizations in legal proceedings they might well lose.

It’s totally devastating that some groups and orgs have been pushed into such a position. Excluding our trans siblings is a backwards step. One day we will look back at this period in time and realise, what many of us know already. It’s utterly shameful and wrong.

This is an important point. The GLP case hasn't happened yet, and the EHRC "guidance" hasn't happened yet. Are these groups trying get these capitulations out before these?
Which raises the question of the timing.
Why do these announcements come together. It's been months since the "Supreme" Court ruling, and the guidance isn't out.

One of the worst aspects of this is that the same groups making these legal threats then go around saying that this type of exclusion and discrimination makes transitioning so negatively affect one's life that no one should do it as if it's a choice.
Trans women has been welcomed at the Women's Institute since the 1970s and one member is in her 80's and has been a member for decades. This is pure bigotry pushed by legal threats backed monetarily by JK Rowling.
