Here is a slightly revised, and much prettier, version of my new working paper on the impact of walking distance on first year student performance. To our knowledge, this is the first study to measure this effect, which proved significant and surprisingly large.

"Ein Volk, ein Reich, ...

They left the "ein Führer" implied.

This is what US government departments are now putting up on their websites. Nazi imagery deliberately coopted? Or do the people in government just come up with this stuff independently?

Yet one more reason why charlatans like Hassett should not be allowed anywhere near the Fed.

Glad to see that lame duck (always that) Tillis won't vote to confirm any Trump appointee. He needs to convince the other "moderates" to caucus with the Dems in order to block this administration.

Is today special forces in Greenland day?

I screamed at them to do precisely that sometime last winter.

I wonder how many millions will be made tomorrow by people who knew this was in the works ...

If the Democrats retake the House, impeachment proceedings should begin immediately. We are ceasing to be a pluralist society with any meaningful checks on executive authority.

On the other hand, it’s perfectly OK to say that to Mitch McConnell as he tries to steer back away from the abyss he has personally created. He has done potentially irremediable harm to the nation with his crass politics of stuffing the courts and courting the know nothings.

I just feel like posting a few pictures from Nevada.

If a Democrat is elected in 2029, I would hope (and expect) that Homan will be investigated and likely indicted.

The downside of this kind of threat is that we become ever more like a banana republic in which losing power becomes existential, so governments never willingly cede power.

If you have a few good ones to spare, I’ll take them. 😉

I would add, "investigate, and if evidence warrants, prosecute every member of ICE credibly involved in criminal behavior."

If the rules of engagement handed to ICE violate laws, that does not absolve ICE member of criminal activity.

... which is, of course, why many of us do not trust police. These organizations that supposedly represent the police and reflect their thinking and morality make it statistically sensible to "profile" police as violent, "shoot first and enjoy it," and undertrained.

It's unfortunate, and a bit funny, that you need to put the asterisk in for the "slow-on-the-uptake."

We're Twitter-trained to understand the necessity of stating the obvious to minimize the number of trolls and bots who will try to pull you down with offensively stupid logic chopping.

The problem with declaring the BOV "illegal" is that everything else they have done, like confer degrees, is potentially illegitimate as well, unless you can carve out exceptions for decisions that would place undue and unmerited harm on ancillary parties like students.

Maybe he'll sustain a back injury and need spinal surgery ...

I said that about six months ago at least.

The administration is playing with disunion fire.
at some point we're gonna have to have a real conversation about why we're still paying federal taxes to a regime that isn't using them to help anyone, but instead is using them to brutalize us

"They" know that. They are speaking mostly to brain-dead loyalists and "blue can never be wrong" people. We are a post-rational society now.

Any from the journal that just rejected your paper?

That's always a pisser. 😉

.... unless, of course, the mob is made up of masked thugs with "police" written on their clothing.

What do you think should happen with the new president? I have suggested that Spanberber meet with the selection committee to glean information, and that she should summarily dismiss the rector and vice rector (at a minimum) for their role in collaboration with the Trump administration.

Yes, I know that language evolves, but pardon an old fuddy duddy's opinion! 😉

There is no "dish" in distribute. The word "tree" does not begin with the same sound as "church." One does not climb a "ch"ree.

I'm hearing the hard "t" replaced with the soft sh and ch quite frequently.

Welcome to the world where wealthy Republicans live in comfort, tut tutting at liberal "panics," poor and rural MAGAs live in poverty nursing grievances expertly nurtured by Miller, while the GOP's filthy, undereducated gestapo agents keep destroying the values that made America worth preserving.

Are all Republicans such dumbasses with no moral compass. Seems so ...

That sounds like an excellent "public health" measure!

All of this pig slop will be brought back in wonderful 90 second negative ads in 2028.

That if Trump moves military forces into Greenland, the consequences could be far larger than some casualties with a few Danish "tripwire" soldiers in Nuuk.

Two questions. Is there any legal remedy for the mayor or governor to force the federal government to give them access to evidence. Second, if that is not forthcoming could they proceed to indictments anyway, based on the video evidence already in their possession.

That would include interning the roughly 100,000 US military personnel currently on active duty at European bases. And holding them prisoner for the duration of the hostilities.
