I think at this point the UK has accepted Paddington as the Death Bear, collector of souls. So, I think as a nation we should start smearing marmalade on the eyes of the dead and whisper “fare for the crossing”. It’ll feel weird now but, in three of four generations, no one will question it.

I don't know if I have it in me to run meetings and check in with people today. I almost wish the power would go out for a bit. Maybe the weather has given me a headache...?

And yet, when women who have been running pro-grade logistics for a decade for 4 kids, 3 instruments, one tumbling, 2.5 sports and 3 scouting packs try to return to the workforce and get paid for this experience, they’re told both that they’re over-qualified & would have to start at entry level.
I mostly just stay off Twitter altogether but after double checking that the Walter Hudson post was still up I ran across this and just had to share so the Romancelandians who bought hand warmers could hear about the PROFESSIONAL GRADE LOGISTICS.

The Secretary of Defense praising the murder of a protestor and posting "ICE > MN."

Minnesota is an American state with almost six million residents.
This is an actual post from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth: Praising ICE after Alex Pretti was killed, blaming the Democratic leadership of Minnesota, and writing that ICE is greater/better than Minnesota.

He is actively demeaning the people of Minnesota just hours after Pretti was murdered.

Never has it been more important to understand truth, epistemology and ontology. Some things are objectively true, other things do depend on your positionality. But we shouldn’t “balance out” the objectively true with conspiracy theory and misinformation.
Thinking about the underlying notion of truth this morning. 🧵
The BBC coverage is absolutely terrible.

It leads on "sharply contested narratives"

It has a dramatic skew to the US government

It has posted the video but has failed to report on what it shows: it shows the US govt account is untrue

Today I learned “Norwegian Christian laws forbade citizens from conversing with and interacting with trolls, and in documents dating from 1274 to 1781, doing so would result in severe punishment” (source: Wikipedia), and I kinda think many people nowadays would be better off if this law was revived

Well put! Also, while "women are too emotional" is a BS claim that gets bandied about to dismiss women and to discriminate against them, remember that anger is an emotion: a great many men shouldn't be in charge of a paper bag, never mind a government.
A man told me yesterday that it was important to "take emotion out of the equation“ when analysing the situation in the US, at which point I told him very calmly that "a woman who disagrees with you is not necessarily emotional".

Ladies, it was a breakthrough.

I should have done this years ago.

One thing that's becoming clear about national reaction to the Minnesota protests is other Americans don't understand how desolate, cold, and empty the upper Midwest gets this time of year. The federal government gave people with nothing to do for the next three months something to fucking do.
I know people keep saying this but it’s hard to communicate the depth of active resistance here. Like, I’m on random cafes and people are checking in for observation shifts. Signs everywhere. Folks in visibility vests on the corners. It’s wild. Absolutely wild.

I've been seeing people excitedly share how cold it is going to be in Minneapolis tomorrow and relishing how ICE will deal with it, as if ICE won't choose that day to do some starlight tours.

People will have to be even more vigilant, over a wider area.

i don’t want to eat the rich. i want them to live the rest of their lives as normal people. i want them to work 12-hour shifts in fast food restaurants, earning sub-minimum wage for a douchebag boss, and struggling to pay rent on time. i want them to know what life is like on the knife edge.

A normal person thinks of getting money as accumulating money, increasing wealth.

A billionaire thinks of it as collateral to use to go deeper into a mathematically staggering debt, reaching that magical point where you get richer the more money you owe.
