She submitted one MS every 2-3 years (this was romance so that was a v low publication rate) and got a different editor every time. We had no way of telling till a reader flagged it. It was quite a nifty scam while it lasted, lol.

Thing is, every editor I have spoken to is as passionately against slop as you could wish, but they have absolutely zero way to be sure an author isn't using it, so even if the pledge was utterly sincere, it's not something they can assert.

IMO yes, she was basically copy pasting huge chunks of text from previous books and changing the names. Her work but not her new or original work. IDK what a court would decide but we booted her.

If it's seen to be an advantage to get a No AI sticker they will put No AI stickers on the books but it will not come with a thorough No AI effort because nobody is hiring a No AI staff member to do however much work that would be.

and anyone who's about to white knight authors here should please note that, as an editor, I once had the truly fractal experience of discovering that an author had significantly and repeatedly plagiarised *herself*. That was definitely a day in the office.

Basically this certification depends on 1) publishers acting with total probity and 2) authors not lying to them, and, look.

At this stage, anyone using the regurgitron to generate their synopsis or their ideas, still less their text, is knowingly collaborating with copyright thieves, and if they are tradpub, knowingly breaking the contract clause that agrees it's all their own work. Dishonest people gonna dishonest.
