you just can't have a meaningful conversation about the potential benefits of "AI" while this stuff is happening. it's like trying to talk about how useful an airplane might be during a hijacking
November 26, 2025 at 4:31 PM
Remember that anecdote about Steve Jobs dropping the first prototype iPod in his fish tank, to demonstrate it had air pockets that could be removed to make it leaner?

Those air pockets are the parts you're filling with AI
If the dialogue could be written by GenAI, so you think you'll just fill the space with that?

Cut it. Seriously. The omission will be stronger than just stuffing your whatever with bland oatmeal.

You aren't making anything better with it, you're making it worse. Less really is more, almost always.
i take frenzy damage every time i see someone go "well i just use it for the boring stuff". what are you TALKING about? if it's boring or unimportant, why are you putting it in? NPC dialogue is fertile ground for worldbuilding, creating verisimilitude, conveying important information, and hijinks!!

big late breaking news: the market monitor for the largest energy grid in the u.s., covering much of the midwest and mid-atlantic, has called to block new data centers connections to the grid, saying current course of growth assures regular blackouts
No more PJM data centers unless they can be reliably served: market monitor
The PJM Interconnection’s market monitor urged the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to rule that large data centers can only come online if the grid operator can still meet reliability metrics.

when you must stay 100% objective in the captions
In the newest Pluribus, Carol is describing a “white powdery stuff” but the captions said “#d1ad2c powdery stuff”. Which looks like a hex code. The color was also more or less the color of the caption text. Some kind of find and replace mistake?

Also, this color trumped my setting. Not normal.

This short (The Big Snooze, 1946) is probably one of the ten best cartoons ever made. Take it from me: a freak of nature.
I just learned the Bugs Bunny No meme doesn't even come from him saying no. It's a frame rotated 90 degrees from him taking a drink from a bottle. I needed to share this.

This is one of those things that rarely gets talked about that has had a massive effect.

As fields like journalism, art, and academia were collapsed and living expenses skyrocketed they came to skew increasingly toward people whose families could afford to supplement their income.
If you're ever wondered why journalists seem so out of touch most of the time it's because in order to establish yourself you need to either come from money, marry into money, or be OK with abject poverty and daily financial panic

That third thing is unsustainable long-term

Isn't it an insane coincidence that (1) there is a very wide, almost totally uninhabited segment of longitude which we can drive an International Date Line through with minimal inconvenience and (2) it's on the exact opposite side of the world from our prime meridian, midnight to Greenwich's midday

in terms of sick, dark legal comedy, this is up there with Disney claiming they weren't liable for a death on Disney property because the plaintiff had signed the waiver for a free trial of Disney+
Additionally, OpenAI argues its not liable because Raine, by using ChatGPT for self-harm, broke its terms of service
