In broadcast, most (all?) CRT TVs would've trimmed off the bit at the bottom of this shot.

This sort of thing's not uncommon! There's at least one example in Gunbuster.

Earlier, at the start of TV anime, in the 60s, they rapidly learned that sound effects can make up for limited movement.

One common challenge when translating horror manga is that the Japanese language is basically tailor-made for stories where it seems like characters carry on normal conversations with the protagonist for dozens of pages until you hit the last page and it turns out they're a ghost nobody can perceive

There's a kid in my neighborhood who is always running. Yesterday I saw him stop, pull out a tiny bound notebook, open to the center and quickly scan the contents with a look of deep contemplation. He tapped the page with the back of his hand, said "Yes. Become stronger," and broke back into a run
