Wild that this is happening at the same time that the Popularist crowd has decided to declare a jihad against any kind of climate policy.
This is incredible (good news too): “After a 40% fall in 2024 in battery equipment costs, it’s clear we’re on track for another major fall in 2025…The economics for batteries are unrecognizable, & the industry is only just getting to grips with this new paradigm”

Batteries now cheap enough to make dispatchable solar economically feasible
Energy think tank Ember says utility-scale battery costs have fallen to $65/MWh outside China and the United States, enabling solar power to be delivered when needed.

Tragically many governments are reneging on the commitment to asylum but one of the particular horrors of the Trump Administration is that they are not merely indifferent to sending refugees back to be persecuted, a lot of the time it's what they deliberately set out to achieve

British media culture really does seem completely unable to grasp the idea that you are not entitled to everybody's unconditional support all of the time.
Graham Linehan has such little self-awareness he *really* doesn’t understand how totally unhinged he seems in his ‘woe is me’ batshit crazy ranting! 😬

He’s the ‘cautionary tale’ of what obsessive ‘gender critical’ transphobia leads to: no friends, no life, and spaghetti carbonara for one!

I dislike weighing in on stupid and pointless discourses, but the idea that you cannot target retreating troops is one of the most grating topics that people bring up.

You retreat so you can conserve combat power and come back to fight from a better position the next day and kill your adversary.

It's getting tiring to keep saying this, but if the Biden DHS had tried this, conservatives would be screaming about it for the next twenty years and there would be three separate SCOTUS opinions about religious freedom referencing it.

some significant part of this is just catch-all fear for “this is not the child I ordered” I think
Oh, here's a big surprise. The transphobes don't believe in ADHD either.

then, the transphobes , feeling victorious at how many people they have made unhappy and despairing in the previous week, move on to anything else that has a spectrum and the possibility of more colours than they can conceive - such hateful people - they cannot understand anything that is not THEM

UPDATE: Another Chicago-area church has put up an immigration-themed Nativity scene.

A church member at Urban Village Church sent this one along, where Mary, Joseph and Jesus are gone and replaced with a sign that reads: “Due to ICE activity in our community, the Holy Family is in hiding.”

This is a progressive Christian congregation, United Methodist in denomination although they call themselves "multi-denominational community". Contra some tweets I am seeing this isn't a sign church as a whole changing sides, rather a faction that was always there getting much louder. (This is good)

i think an overriding theme of american politics today is that so many elites think politics is gamesmanship; that its intra in-group signaling and posturing without any severe material effects. that there is a hard floor we can't actually sink beneath, that the bottom can't fall out. and buddy
It's neither here nor there, but the kind of shit a pissant like Wurman is peddling is the exact of shit that would get you jumped by a couple of congressmen while you walked back to your bunkhouse on 1850s Washington
the idea that a handful of conservative legal scholars have an understanding that should supersede a settlement affirmed my generations of american is astoundingly arrogant, and the idea that trump — or any president — can unilaterally overturn that settlement is just despotism

They know that SCOTUS is very likely to overturn the 14th amendment, which definitionally means that overturning the 14th amendment is a reasonable thing to do, which means they need to start preemptively constructing justifications for it now, to show how reasonable and sensible they are.
You could write this. Or you could write: “That notion, which has been the rule in nearly every country in the Western Hemisphere for over a century, is grounded in the language of the 14th Amendment.”

All how you choose to frame it.
