Everybody here comes from somewhere that they would just as soon forget

I'm 40 years old and a dad of two, so let me say this:

I'm unofficially adopting every Bluesky user who isn't an obnoxious asshole, effective immediately.

I'm your new dad, and I know you're struggling, but I can see how hard you're working to improve yourself.

I'm really proud of you.
It was a different situation, but one thing I had to learn the very hard way is that sometimes you can't do anything to help someone beyond making sure they know that they're always welcome to come back to you, and that you'll always leave the light on for them when they're ready.
People I've known online for a long time have commented, over the past 2 or so years, that I seem to have disappeared, bit by bit. It's true. I did. That's what happens when you are separated from your own truth. But I am clawing my way back. And I will shine light on what I saw, from the other side
I have escaped from domestic violence. The domestic violence was not just contained to the home, but also involved weaponization of systems. I hope to do a fuller accounting of what happened one day to bring light to this problem. For now, here is my "Thank You" note to Joe Biden & the VAWA.

What a typical text conversation between my mother and me looks like:

When I was just a baby political poster on what was known at the time as "radical centrist Twitter", Magdi was one of the people who I loved following as much as anyone.

Magdi and I have, I think, pretty damn similar politics, but I have always appreciated how, because I feel like we arrive at them

This is just pretty open and vile racism, and it'd be nice to see, say, the NYT or Chicago Tribune, or Washington Post or really any media conglomerate call it out as such.

They won't though, because they all agree with it.

I, I really want to go out
I really want to go outside and stop to see your day
You, you really want to hole up
You really want to stay inside and sleep the light away
Circumstantial evidence, but:

Usha Vance has been photographed without her wedding ring

Erika Kirk just announced she’s pregnant

The timeline of said pregnancy doesn’t seem to line up with the assassination right

Part of the problem with the rush of journalists trying to act like there is some sort of universal condemnation of Nuzzi/Lizza is a) we all have eyes and can see that that isn't true, b) we all saw her VF gig and the fawning NYT profile, and c) where were you a year ago?

Their job was to exonerate her.
yeah it’s bad that Lizza has been sitting on this for so long but also how cursory and inept was that Vox investigation that not only managed to miss the biggest scandal in the history of American political journalism but affirmatively exonerated her bsky.app/profile/bkel...
So the editor of New York Magazine said there was no bias or ethical problems with Olivia's articles?

Does he still think that?

They should retract all of her stories

Right, which is why the people trying to frame Nuzzi and Lizza as aberrations miss the point.

Their behavior is only abnormal because of its newness, but the kind of people who would behave as they have is not random; it's the logical endpoint of the environment they've fostered for years
yep. also really can't overstate how much nuzzi is very much the product of an environment that rewards amoral ambition and frowns on people who sincerely believe anything

Swerve and Hangman are the kind of masculinity I can get behind: Forming a friendship with your mortal enemy who burned your house down after you menaced his infant child - and just learning that you enjoy doing crimes *together*.
What 'male loneliness epidemic'?

I think my basic explanation here is that this Semafor-Ben piece from the initial news had to either be correct or else he would have been run out of the industry, which he definitely was not.

It's a pity that there isn't the same level of "Longform essays about how day to day people saw the war" videos on Youtube for the Civil War as there is for WW2, because it'd be fascinating, but the ones from WW2 are frequently fascinating.

One of my most lib-coded opinions is that it is reasonable to think that immigrants who seriously violate the terms of their Visas, like committing violent crimes or trying to work under a tourist Visa, should face deportation.
What is this even

The literal, actual VERY LAST SCENE of Star Trek: TNG is Picard joining the officers' poker game, because he has realized that he wants to both see them and be seen by them as not just as captain, but as a friend.

Watched the first 3 episodes of the Mighty Nein cartoon.

It was cute. Liked the Easter egg where two of the characters look into a series of magic mirrors that show them as different races and classes, and one of them, which shows them as humans, just shows their VAs. That was a fun bit.

It's actually almost exactly like when Jake Paul beat Mike Tyson last November, which nobody took to mean Jake Paul was going to be the world's next great boxing champion.
If this was boxing and some newbie came outta nowhere and beat Mike Tyson in his prime in...whatever round is considered late, I don't know boxing, then *EVERYONE* would be clamoring to learn what that newbie's secret is.

Right.

The problem is that that is "policing", which a lot of these people reflexively hate.

They'd rather have the justice of the mob, so they have to work backwards to internally justify it.
“Demanding consequences from people who have done wrong” is not bullying. Putting up posters around town mocking someone for being gay is bullying.

And they still have Paolo and Mo Wagner coming back

This article is mostly a good summary of what we know, but it repeats the "Nuzzi is/was a good writer" claim which has never made sense and looks worse now that her book excerpts have been released.

Her articles were always the shallow diary entries of a self-important socialite, not a journalist

Never gonna stop being funny to me that there is an extremely successful fitness/strength competitor whose name translates to mean "Annie, daughter of Thor".
