Not for nothing, but when Sen. Josh Hawley gave a speech at the National Conservatism conference this year about reigning in Big Tech, the room burst into raucous applause multiple times.

Over and over, I’ve seen concerns about Big Tech emerge as one of the only pieces of pan-political agreement.
The battle over how AI should be regulated (or not) has opened a rift in Trump's MAGA coalition of right-wing populists and tech billionaires. www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...

Stream-of-consciousness has long been part of Trump’s political rhetoric, as has a bit of repetition.

But it’s hard not to notice how Trump falls into fully repeating himself here until he’s eventually interrupted.
Trump on Indiana Republicans refusing to redistrict: "There's a man named Bray, I guess head of the Senate. Was that Bray? Was that the name, Bray? I'm sure that whenever his primary is, I'm sure he'll go down. He'll go down. I'll certainly support anybody that wants to go against him."

The Senate has rejected legislation to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits, essentially guaranteeing that millions of Americans will see a steep rise in costs at the beginning of the year.

From a *intra-religion* perspective, the entire last section of this interview is fascinating.

Douthat presses Kolvet on Christianity, suggesting there's a disconnect between Trump-style Christianity and the faith forwarded by (a very conservative) Erika Kirk. www.nytimes.com/2025/12/11/o...

DHS's treatment of clergy just got an indirect shout-out just now at this Noem hearing on the Hill (it was mentioned on a board of headlines).

Dems haven't yet touched on that topic or other religious pushback to DHS directly yet, though.

I certainly haven't watched every congressional hearing, but this Noem hearing has made more comprehensive use of technology than any hearing I've seen yet — videos, person on Zoom via on a tablet, etc.

Deleted an earlier post, as the demonstrator appears to be associated with the activist group Code Pink.

I am not aware of of any Catholic Bishop who is associated with the group, so — unless someone knows otherwise — it's possible this is a person *dressed* as a Catholic bishop.

Another update: DHS has issued a pair of statements about Nativity scenes near Chicago and Boston.

The statements swap out the names of the faith leaders and the allegations levied, but otherwise appear the same.

Side note: Revs. Woolf (Baptist) and Josoma (Catholic) are both Christian clergy.

In the bitter cold, neighbors are gathered outside Lake Street Church for a vigil for ICE victims.

This is where @revdrmichaelwoolf.bsky.social preaches—the pastor arrested on camera by ISP at Broadview.

A big subtext here: The GOP and Trump administration — including Trump himself! — have repeatedly bemoaned the plight of persecuted Christians over the years, often referencing Iranian Christians in particular.

But per this priest, the admin is trying to deport Iranian Christians back to Iran.

Oh hey a Mr. Rogers-themed campaign announcement — can’t say I’ve seen a campaign announcement with this level of cozy vibes before.

(Religion aside: In addition to running his massively popular show, Mr. Rogers — Fred Rogers — was an ordained Presbyterian minister.)

I did not realize until recently that people have strong feelings against “people movers” in airports.

(Those people are wrong. If you’re gonna have a super-long terminal, then people movers are good, actually.)

Just gonna take this as an opportunity to note that when I'm president*, I will do everything in my power to ensure all three branches of government are required to use Georgia as their standard font.

Two things here: Jerusalem crosses are pretty typical in a lot of Christian contexts. Very liberal Christians get them as tattoos a lot, too.

And, also: it has *also* been/become a symbol on the far right, associated with the crusades, Christian nationalism, various far-right ideologies, etc.
Since deleted and yes, the patch logo is what you think it is and yes, it is the same as that one guy has as a tattoo.

Religion note: there's a longstanding theological debate over whether Jesus would classify* as a refugee today (or, say, an Internally Displaced Person), but liberal Christians have noted to me that recent history further complicates their critics' position, as DHS has also detained U.S. citizens.
UPDATE: Another Chicago-area church has put up an immigration-themed Nativity scene.

A church member at Urban Village Church sent this one along, where Mary, Joseph and Jesus are gone and replaced with a sign that reads: “Due to ICE activity in our community, the Holy Family is in hiding.”
