The claim that Mamdani is anti-Semitic rests entirely on the idea that well, surely he *must* harbor those beliefs secretly because of his religion.

That's an approach that has itself fueled a lot of *actual* anti-Semitism and is deeply dangerous to push.
Y'all ever notice how nobody can ever actually point to any *specific thing* that Mamdani *actually said* that was antisemitic, and how people are just baldly asserting it anyway

I'm too lazy/out of practice/don't have a license at home to do this properly but close enough for posting work: I overlaid The City's new general election map over their primary map, and turned the general to 70% opacity. This produces four colors.

Maine's current AG is 47, not sure why nobody 's looing at him. Maine senate president is 37 and owns a brewery. Platner and MIlls are not our only two guys.

I honestly think that trying to legislate what was in Platner's heart and what/when he understood is a trap. It doesn't matter to me.

It's actually okay to just go, "man I'd love to believe you've changed but I'm going to need to see proof of it in a place with lower stakes than the US Senate"

No Kings protests were one of the few times Trump, MAGA, and right-wing media were reacting to something the opposition did, rather than the opposition reacting to whatever they do.
Adopt a principle from war strategy: generally better to be taking action and forcing opponents to react. Good point.
Point five is really important. The protests provoked errors from the administration (shit force one) that may haunt them for years. That’s what happens when you stop being reactive.

so like, this is what i am talking about in re the authoritarian internationale. trumpworld thinks millei is their guy, so they're trying to keep him afloat through the elections down there. we should consider learning some lessons from this.

one thing that has been obvious for a while is this aspect of the authoritarian internationale: they recognize that their allies abroad are not *countries* but *political movements* within foreign countries.

time we liberals woke up and recognized this--because it's the truth.
Or maybe, just maybe, what was obvious in 2024 was correct: Netanyahu fully backed Trump and would not deal with Biden because Trump would give him a free hand to escalate the starvation, bombing, and do full ethnic cleansing. Which he then did, until Netanyahu embarrassed him by bombing Qatar.

The perfect encapsulation of Politico.

"Of course the White House is lying, but it's a pretty savvy lie, so let's see how it plays?"

It's all a fun little game with no stakes to them. It's like they're recapping episodes of Real Housewives.
This short passage from a Politico afternoon newsletter captures a huge amount of the advantage gained by lying at scale and the why the DC press corps remains wired for the GOP.

The key problem with what Ezra Klein says here is that he fails – or is unwilling – to grapple with the fundamental reality of the political conflict: The movement that dominates today’s Right fully rejects the very idea of “living here with each other” as equals. That’s their defining position.
"All I can say for me in the work I do is that I want to create a space that takes our disagreements seriously, that takes the stakes of them seriously, the consequences for people seriously, but does so without deepening our divisions irreparably. We are going to have to live here with each other"
