This is the voter Matt Yglesias made up to support his opinions made real.

Trump: "I don't think there's anything that's gonna get me in heaven. I think I'm not maybe heaven bound. I may be in heaven right now as we fly on Air Force One. I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to make heaven."

It wasn't a bribe because it was a sting operation. So there.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Did Tom Homan give the $50,000 back?

VANCE: He did not take a bribe. It's a ridiculous smear

STEPHANOPOULOS: You didn't answer the question

VANCE: Did he accept $50,000? I'm sure that in the course of Homan's life, he's been paid more than $50k for services.

(So, no, he didn't)

So Kilmer Abrego-Garcia will not challenge a deportation to Costa Rica, who has agreed to for him residency, but DHS won’t agree to send him there because it’s not cruel enough.

www.nytimes.com/2025/10/10/u...
For weeks, Mr. Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran national who is married to a U.S. citizen, has made clear that he would not challenge his deportation if he were sent to Costa Rica, which has promised him legal residency and guaranteed that he would not be sent back to El Salvador.

But the Trump administration has refused to deport him to Costa Rica, and in an earlier hearing this week, Judge Xinis pressed the administration to consider the option or clarify why it was unacceptable.

Nothing on the FP about ICE. What mobs is she taking on?

I think that's what another team pays if they poach him. If they terminate early or fire for cause they owe some lesser sum. Penn state is theoretically leaving $50m on the table but realistically after this season nobody would beat down their door for him.

I’m not trying to go after this guy specifically because lots of smart people fall into this trap for some reason, but “they’re just wrong, because they were misinformed” is literally the simplest possible explanation for bewildering voter behavior.

For the record I also said I regret the ad hominem.

I was arguing it was mostly social media and vibes but interest rates still being high mattered on the margin. Will decided to screenshot after i detached quote (don't need to deal with the loons he attracts). This is how we handle 93% agreement apparently.

It also amuses me to do that. Fortunately I haven't had to deal with the people Will drives to psychosis in my mentions - so far. I saw this (after folding laundry) because Josh Marshall is currently making similar arguments to wit just accept 93% agreement and move on with your life.

I detached the quote because I do not accept the practice of quote tweeting mid discussion, but evidently this point was so important to make in this exact manner to go back and screenshot.

When people claim to be voting based on some problem that doesn’t exist, be it food price inflation, crime increases, or immigrant caravans, “they’re lying and/or misinformed” IS the most parsimonious explanation.

“They’re expressing sublimated anger over something else” is much more convoluted.

The fact they barred nationwide injunctions while denying every stay under the sun is the most thumb on the scale thing imaginable. All DOJ lawyers have to do is run the clock.

This is the entire crux of the criticism. If it's housekeeping stuff pending rulings on the merits, it's entirely left to district court discretion. If they can't write a long merits opinion, stay out of it.

Amy Coney Barrett defends heavy use of the shadow docket: "If we wrote a long opinion, it might give the impression that we have finally resolved the issue, and in none of these cases have we finally resolved the issue."

The point I readied earlier is it's far more common for people to ignore inflation to blame a pet peeve. But I do think issues like specific global macro trends and prez too old probably less salient next time.

I don't mean scammy as in theft per se I mean as highly aggravating to deal with. Being nickeld and dimed with junk fees etc

Tighter consumer credit was bad for younger voters and pushed them into very scammy alternatives

I think both points Cai makes are correct here, including about the personalization.
