i think to understand the meaning of the birthright citizenship clause to the framers of the 14th amendment, you have to understand significance of dred scott to the civil war republican party. dred scott wasn't just a bad ruling, it was understood as a rejection of the declaration itself.

the birthright clause was not just written to wipe dred scott off of the books, it was written to repudiate the *idea* behind dred scott, you might say the larger *ideological project* of dred scott. and the whole of section 1 of the 14th amendment is a constitutional statement of political equality

I'm generally not a fan of starchitects so I always kind of assume they are neither pleasant nor practical, and it has been really nice to hear people sharing stories of Frank Gehry that he supported the people who worked for and studied under him.
There are many reasons to remember the life and work of Frank Gehry today but want to highlight that he was a good employer who knew how to run an office and took construction seriously.

Yggy didn’t take the oath so you can’t get him on this but legit, if you swore to uphold the constitution and you participate in getting rid of birthright citizenship, insurrection clause. No more offices of trust or profit. Personally liable for damages. Criminal investigations where appropriate.
I continue to think that Matty coming out against birthright citizenship a few months ago should have been taken as a major warning sign that the group chats have already decided to surrender on this.

Transphobia is a luxury belief. Yes, ordinary people are often ambiently transphobic, but they have bigger things to worry about. The true believers are wealthy, powerful, influential, and face no real hardship that would force them to prioritize issues that affect them.
They genuinely don't have anything better to do. These are not people capable of great things. That she was so capable, that trans people can attain successes they must win with lies & slander, gnaws at them. Even when they win, for them it has no savor

Of course #NotAllMen and all that, and some women are pieces of work just as anyone can be, but it’s just self evidently true at this point that the median woman is a better partner and a better person than the median man. Maybe this was always the case, but women now don’t get stuck with them.
Yeah, basically we have revealed an enormous number of men are trash and after a generation of women were told to "git gud" to get a man and men were told women were nags for wanting regular bathing, a job, and help, there's just a huge divide.

I do actually wonder whether the absolute blowout in Jersey City and the clear correlation between development+transit and machine unpopularity will motivate the machine to turn NIMBY in previously-YIMBY Bayonne, Kearny, and Harrison

New School has been one of the most important humanities and social science universities in the world for the past 70 years. The humanities are collapsing at all of the pillars, and it won't be long until less prestigious institutions feel validated to call open season upon a number of departments.
Thinking of my New School friends whose programs have been closed (~30 of them), whose PhD programs have been indefinitely halted, and who are now receiving invitations to resign + accept severance payments — with the threat of 🪓 if not enough folks take the offer. A ✨-if-imperfect place ruined 😥
