This is not the first time Syrian villagers have clashed with the Israeli occupation and the continued illegal presence of Israeli soldiers in Syria including in the Golan Heights continues to exacerbate the problems in MENA.

According to local Syrian media, the IDF which occupies all of Palestine, much of southern Lebanon, and huge swathes of southwestern Syria, attempted to arrest a Syrian civilian tonight in Beit Jinn but was met with resistance from the locals, and in turn the IDF killed two people via airstrike.

the culprit wasn’t the bamboo scaffolding, but the corruption, bureaucracy & negligence that facilitated & supported a construction company’s decision to cut corners by using nets, that didn’t meet the fire-satefy standards, to cover the bamboo scaffolding despite locals’ criticisms of this practice

"Bamboo" is maybe exotic and a compelling hook but it is too easy. The real story here is the growing culture of corruption, including a lack of accountability and oversight, that enabled a chain of human errors that led to this disaster.

This was infuriating when the government started ousting pro-dem district councillors and you saw how much of the gaifong issues were going to be neglected. These are folks genuinely willing to listen to older uncles talk about building pedestrian bridges! They want to serve the people! Let them!

maybe I went somewhat off the rails, but I just had to blurt all this about before I encounter another type of commentary that invokes the need to write all this down. could write something more structured than this when (& if) I have time.
To recapitulate, the state is just another social construct out of the many we have created & have assumed as real, & they define us. We live in a reality stratified by these social constructs. To critique this is to engage in deconstruction. To pretend we aren’t define by them is being naïve.
