I'm going to start collecting threads on HK protest art in one place. Easier to walk down memory lane, even if they be filled with tears and teargas.

Having these in many places mean the images are harder to erase. And harder to forget.
This is weirder when you consider how the writer works (worked?) at Straits Times and seems to be Singaporean
And SCMP frames it as: why aren’t Singaporeans beautiful?

For those wondering, the older generation was active during 2019, so an anti-government 71 year old is not a surprise. It’s also not a surprise when you realize this generation spent their 30s scarred by Tiananmen and in their 40s saw HK change from a colony to a Chinese city

FWIW, The Office for Safeguarding National Security is not "Hong Kong authorities". This was a summons by a mainland authority based in Hong Kong, and answers to Beijing directly.
Hong Kong authorities summoned international news organizations to a rare meeting on Saturday to warn against “false information and smear campaigns” surrounding the city’s deadliest fire in nearly eight decades and upcoming legislative elections.

The AFP reporter went for the jugular and asked a question that was really a rhetorical one. I can see why the HK government wasn’t pleased
Remember the AFP journalist who asked if the city's leader would resign following mass casualties in the tower block fires?

Now: AFP among international media 'summoned' by PRC state security in Hong Kong and issued with ‘don’t say we didn’t warn you’ threat.

This framing is a new moral low for the HK government.
1/ "While we mourn the victims and support those affected, we must also be united and support reform together... I emphasise everyone should cast their decisive vote," Hong Kong's John Lee told reporters, as the "patriots only" polls opened following November's deadly Tai Po blaze.

They decided they can’t give people ‘I Voted’ sticker because who’d want to put a giant “I’m a loser” on themselves
Voters were handed a "thank you" card after casting their ballot in the "patriots only" poll on Sunday.

As of 1.30pm, 15.18 per cent of registered geographical constituency voters had cast a ballot. By this time in 2021, 14.39 per cent had turned out, but polls opened an hour later.

This makes it sound like the fire was somehow a result of the residents’ revolt but just want to make it clear that in fact the ‘revolt’ was the residents questioning the contractor’s behaviour

HK government’s approach to Tai Po fire reminds me a bit of what happened early on during the pandemic when the community stepped up first because the regime was MIA
It wasn't all just images spread online. Lennon walls, which have been focal points within communities for protest art and articles became places to broadcast public health PSAs:

"Wear a mask!!!"
"Always, always, always, always, always wash hands!!!"
