Wow, a junior in a university science major wrote this? And in response to the very clear assignment? This student needs to go back to basic essay writing courses and get over the "I believe" BS. The assignment is very clear about the evidence-based requirement and need to show critical thinking.
As a prof, I am grateful that TP published both the essay itself and the response!

Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.
The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.
