It boggles my mind on a constant basis what absolutely boring people most public billionaires are.

... Starting with the fact that there is zero evidence that throwing trans people (or anyone!) under the bus will do anything to ensure your own or your institution's survival.

And plenty of evidence that at best it delays the inevitable by a trivial amount of time.
The truth is that there are many good people in good institutions regretfully making the choice to sacrifice trans people because they fear for their own survival and their institution's survival...

...and it is incumbent on us to show them that their choice is not without consequence.

Hell, I give you permission to hate it without reading it! Life's too short to read meaningless prose from a hack.

Imagine - when you don't force people to consume posts with an algorithm, they tend to prefer not to engage with rage-bait and unpopular content.

Corollary - a lot of people on the right don't accept that their positions are wildly unpopular when divorced from the team sports of politics.
The real question is not "Why is Bluesky so left-coded," the real question is "Why can't the right exist in a social media environment without algorithmic assistance, where people can ignore them"

Wait are we looking for a slogan for the politics of being fucking normal?

"Truth, Justice, and the American Way" isn't booked at the moment and covers the key points

I named my fists Simon and Garfunkel, because you'll carry the reminders of every glove that laid you down or cut you till you cried out.
I've named my fists Hall and Oates because whoa-oh here they come, watch out boy, they'll chew you up
I named my fists Pride and Prejudice, because it is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of two fists must be in want of whupping ass

Honestly? Probably retire fractionally earlier, in a society with more art and science and commerce due to there being more opportunity to take risks and more money in the hands of people who will spend it.
Honest question: If everyone got Universal Basic Income, no strings attached, what would YOU do with it?

The effortless shift in discourse from people insisting that anything that isn't a white statue of a dead roman dude isn't art like 3 years ago to demanding that they be treated as visionary artists for typing" x-men mystique big boobs she's my girlfriend" into a prompt window

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

I occasionally get the urge to passive-aggressively create a personal block list called "unable to read and understand conversations" or some such, just so I can get the permanent last word because I suspect a lot of the folks I block are also the kind of people who check what lists they're on.

I feel like I'm the opposite of this guy because reading his insane justification for stealing from a fellow member of the proletariat made me 10% more capitalist.
We’re not small business owners, ffs - we’re independent contractors, and we are routinely robbed by the world’s dumbest dingbats.

Haven't we all figured out by now that Pete Hegseth's entire heuristic for what "manly" and "good for the military" mean is just "things Pete Hegseth thinks he is good at"?

Whole thread is great, and also what I (as a tech guy who's got some machine learning experience) have been saying all along.
Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪

Literally EVERY parent should ban Roblox
Every parent whose career has to do with online safety also bans Roblox.
Every game designer parent I know bans Roblox for their kids

Shoutout to all my fellow champs, chiefs, and kings. ✊

It's frankly astounding to me that some of these dorks are so bubbled that they are 100% convinced that "racism" isn't a thing that exists, they're just being "realistic" in their feelings about minorities, and therefore the word "racist" is just a rude way to say "Republican" or "right-wing".
Weird how many racists like to self-identify themselves as racists.

Probably shouldn't have to say it, but this was in the year 2002.

Repost if you were alive when Oregon amended its constitution to remove its ban on the existence of Black people within its borders and Black ownership of land within the state, even if those Black ppl stayed out.

Of all the potential moderation policies a site needs to have, the violent rhetoric one is consistently the one that causes the most uproar, because people will almost never agree that two posts are equivalent if they are directed at two different targets, even if the words are identical.
